Nightshade

Something seems a little off about this dragon. Maybe it's to do with his parents. Nightshade is an excellent hunter - in fact he was once the alpha hunter of his previous clan. He says there was nothing in the forest he failed to catch, and with the skills he displays he's probably not lying. He says that this is why he left - he grew bored of the selection of prey available to him and moved on to a different hunting ground. This isn't to say he's obsessed or anything, he's got other hobbies and he's quite good at training young dragons to fight. Still, nothing seems to really excite him like hunting does. He always seems to want to bring down more. Prey that's faster, stronger, smarter.... Still. If it feeds the clan, no harm no foul, right? |
Character Notes
• A hunter of the most dangerous game, aka dragons. He didn't leave Clan Goldwood of his own volition - he was chased out by his protege Eola. She had known of his tendencies for some time, but eventually he threatened the wrong dragon and she revealed his secret to the rest of the clan, who subsequently drove him out. Nightshade bears surprisingly little ill-will toward Eola, he's more impressed with her than anything else.
• Collects trophies: bones, horns, teeth, pelts. His living space is decorated with them. None are recognizably from dragons; these he keeps hidden. As a side-note, he is vehemently not cannibalistic and has no desire to eat his kills, he simply enjoys the thrill of it all.
• Very methodical and cold, rarely displaying any emotions at all. He's very optimistic though and can give a pretty dang good pep talk, and he's quite good with children on top of that; hatchlings who aspire to be warriors/hunters usually adore him for this reason. Make no mistake, though: he's simply grooming them to be his next hunt, or next protege if they're very lucky. Or both.

TAVVY'S ADDITION TO LORE FOUND BELOW
___________________________________
Nightshade keeps a detailed journal of his escapades and plots. No dragon has found it yet, and he wants to keep it that way. After making the move to the Lunate clan, Nightshade made the decision to hide his identity behind the pelt of a slain melanistic lion, one of his prized trophies. There was a chance that Eola may still be after him, and although he relished the hunt, there was one thing that he enjoyed just as much: the suspense. Plotting. Waiting. Watching.
What fun is a hunt without an element of danger in it, anyway? Not worth my time. Let her come.

DAY 1 IN CLAN LUNATE:
The patriarch of this clan, who I was initially considering hunting, is too kind and unassuming. I feel like he'd barely put up a fight if I got to him. Although he's obviously powerful - level 25, I assume - he'd be no fun to terminate.
The matriarch, though...
She's a worthy opponent. I can feel the fire rising in her, the competitive fighting spirit burning behind her eyes is almost unbearably strong. I can't even handle being around her for too long, lest I get too excited...
She's more than a worthy opponent. She's perfect quarry, perfect prey, perfect everything.
I can't wait to snuff out her spirit. She'd make a lovely trophy.
DAY 2 IN CLAN LUNATE:
I have calculated that I am approximately 1.5 times her size. She seems aggressive and wary around me - aggressively wary? -- warily aggressive? -- and I can still feel the power emanating from her every scale. Pah! I must gain levels before I am able to take her down. Even though I am larger (and likely more intelligent) than she, she is still obviously more than capable of taking me down.
The stupid patriarch introduced me to Lunate's Mage today. He's a pearlcatcher, a tiny dragon compared to me, really; but he possessed the same element of danger as the matriarch does. He, too, is an extremely high level, but he's much less confrontational and loud about it. He's quiet, but his intentions are questionable. His eyes are off-putting, there's something like knowledge and recognition behind those lenses. Is it possible that his mind is as sharp as mine?
I must not let him get to me.
He'd be less fun to take down, honestly. I feel like he wouldn't even make a sound. Perhaps, due to his level, he'll be next on my list.
For now, though, I will continue to focus on the downfall of the matriarch.
DAY 3 IN CLAN LUNATE:
I can feel that cursed pearlcatcher watching me. I don't see him, though. I haven't felt this uneasy in quite some time. It's very annoying.
DAY 4 IN CLAN LUNATE:
He - he knows, he must know! He can see right through me! How does he do that?
DAY 5 IN CLAN LUNATE:
Oh gods, make it stop!
