The Lorekeeper of Ice

Squallia
Squallia is an ice sprite; a small creation of the Icewarden, and responsible for freeing Eberict from his prison within the Fortress of Ends. It is now his friend and occasionally conscience.

Born in the dead of winter on a particularly cold night, the Tundra named in honor of the Icewarden was regarded as something of an anomaly even at birth.

For one thing, he was born screaming and shown to have reddened eyes, thought to have been the result of a particularly malignant form of the Shade Plague that had recently taken hold across Sornieth the previous year. Eventually he was soothed however, and fears of infection were lessened for several years.

Eventually however, worry began to creep back into the hearts and minds of his family. Unlike other dragons of his kind, he preferred to feast upon meat, seafood, and even insects, rather than plants. When questioned about his dietary habits by another young dragon, the young Eberict merely turned his red gaze on them and mumbled "they wriggle."

As he grew, his odd habit of consuming "wriggling" food only grew. In time, he began to venture out on patrols alone. With the rising presence of Beastclan patrols and the degree to which their information networks allowed them to fight back against dragon patrols, such a thing was ill-advised. Nonetheless, each and every time, Eberict returned alive. The relative mystery of how he managed to avoid being entrapped by their patrols lasted until one particular incident.

One night, a blizzard was moving through the area, and another dragon was sent out to find the Tundra and bring him back before the storm hit. Eberict was found second; what was left of a Beastclan patrol and several Dunhoof emissaries was found first.

Freedom would come from an unlikely source. Eberict had spent five years in a prison within the Fortress of Ends when one night his cell door cracked open. A pale blue light flitted in and broke the chains holding him against the frigid walls. He was then informed by the sprite that he was being given a chance.

With the Beastclans gaining ground in the ongoing war across Sornieth, the Icewarden was dispatching eyes and ears across the world. He required an emissary to venture as far as the Scarred Wasteland, and since the savage Tundra had displayed both the ability to survive in harsh conditions and a taste for meat, he was being chosen. The mission was to be in secret and therefore his escape had to at least look somewhat convincing; Squallia had opened his cell and broken his chains, but escaping the Fortress of Ends would have to be done under Eberict's own power.

Less than an hour later and leaving a trail of bruised and bloodied guards, Eberict was free and on his way north. He expected patrols to follow a land route, so as soon as he was able, he set off across the sea. Using the spells within a tome gifted to him by his new companion, he found himself able to freeze the water around him into a narrow and fragile walkway. For sustenance, there was no short supply of water, and he found fish plentiful.

He aimed to cross the channel between the Southern Icefield and the Ashfall Waste. After all, a Tundra journeying into the Flamecaller's Domain was insanity itself. Of course, insanity was what others knew him for, and not every dragon that pursued him went forth by the northern land route across the Frigid Floes.

Still, he made it farther than his pursuers thought. He wandered slightly off course in his crossing, and one day found himself arriving at the Windswept Plateau.

And that was where one of the dragons tracking him caught up...
