The pages are dogeared and faded from the touch of tiny claws.
At dusk, Sebosha would lift his little son in his claws, holding him up to the sky that he might reach for the waking stars. They counted fireflies until they fell asleep, and the Imperial's wide wings shielded the hatchling from wind and cold and nightmares. They could not shield him from life.

Sebosha woke to empty wings and the distant cries of his son. The Imperial rushed to the rescue, but by the time he arrived, he found only the cooling ashes of a dominance patrol camp. There was nothing left but the bereaved cries of his mate and an unanswered name.

He has lived alone since then, unable to face his mate or risk another child. Even so, his fatherly demeanor remains, and the clan's parents frequently trust their adoring hatchlings to his watch. Sebosha cares for them all equally, tenderly, and most of all, attentively. He could never forgive himself a second mistake.
