Growing up in the Southern Icefield, Montauk truly understands what it means to sustain, perhaps more so than others. His survival skills are expertly crafted to thrive in the harsh, unforgiving wastelands of the Icewarden, where there is very little reason to exist here. The frozen tundra gives nothing away, so one must learn to take whatever they can.
But Montauk wanted more out of life, and this constant battle against the elements of Ice couldn't possibly be all that Sornieth had to offer. He wanted to explore all sorts of different environments and be able to thrive in all of them, and so he ultimately defected from the Icewarden.
