Biography
Kirsi once heard another dragon say 'It is a terrible thing to be nearly 16 and the wrong species'. She's fairly sure it was a joke, but it describes her upbringing fairly well. For the first few years of her life, spent in a huge clan spread across the border where the Reedcleft Ascent meets the Tidelord's territory, she met only Spiral dragons. As a naturally-energetic Nocturne she assimilated relatively well, albeit with unusual sleep patterns, in a clan consisting almost entirely of Spirals.
Learning what eventually turns out to be essential survival skills is a game that occupies much of Kirsi's youth. She spars with the other dragons, helps her elders build shelters in all kinds of conditions, hones her ability to detect nearby magic to the extent that it becomes a second sight and then learns to apply that skill to the water that surrounds her every day, taking turns with other daredevils to make thrilling blindfolded dives after dragonflies hovering over the rapids below.
Eventually the time comes when she's old enough to leave, and while she loves her family there is no question of staying. She longs to meet other dragons, to visit other places and see the world. She longs to meet other Nocturne dragons and see the land of the Arcanist. So she says her goodbyes and leaves on what turns out to be a more exciting adventure than she could ever have anticipated.
It is on the last leg of her journey, in the Icefields, where she discovers clan Shard. Her memories are all but nonexistent following her initial realisation that something bright and terrible is in the area, up until a point where she is being extracted from a tree, pain all over and not least in her mind, two voices, one hurried and bold, the other matter-of-fact but concerned, trying to bring her to consciousness.
Her ordinary vision reduced to perception of smears of colours by the thing's previous presence in her mind, it takes Kirsi a while to adjust to 'seeing' just magic and water as she learned as a hatchling. A short stay while she recovers rapidly becomes an offer of a more permanent home, and Kirsi enthusiastically accepts in spite of Sienn's warnings that the thing which attacked her follows them. She considers the fact that the two have survived its attacks before to mitigate the risks nicely, and applies her endless enthusiasm to their training projects.
She doesn't quite understand what brings about their next big change, and initially it seems rather out-of-character for Sienn at least. But Kirsi loves the idea of joining The Cirque, so she doesn't question how what they learned when clan Gernsabella visited led to this. As always Kirsi integrates rapidly - though she starts on odd jobs as most newcomers do she quickly befriends another Arcane dragon; the Cirque's alchemist, who produces potions for entertainment, sale and use in the healer's tent. Before long Cheery and Kirsi have devised another of the Cirque's many non-circus services, providing roaming training services for dragons of all skills.
