Biography
Desert Doorkeeper
Concept and Lore by Omphale
As you approach one of the many ancient temples in the Sunbeam Ruins, a pile of stone and sand rubble... moves. It is a perfectly camouflaged dragon.
"I am the Doorkeeper," it says. "I guard this place. To enter, you must first get past me."
Amateur archeologists are a plague in the Light domain, and can do great damage to fragile ruins. To prevent this, Lightweaver in her wisdom has created a race of guardian (but not always Guardian) dragons to watch over ancient sites.
A Desert Doorkeeper is not always unwilling to allow entrance to their ruin, but to discourage casual passers-by they will always set some sort of test. A Wildclaw, Mirror, Guardian or Imperial may require you to win a physical battle. A Fae or Tundra will challenge you to a duel of magics. A Nocturne or Pearlcatcher may ask a riddle; a Ridgeback or Spiral may send you on some sort of quest; a Snapper or Coatl might simply sit, inscrutably, while you argue with it. Individual dragons may vary.
Desert Doorkeepers whose ruins lie within the territory of a clan may be quite sociable, but others prefer to lead solitary lives in the deep desert. They will never leave their posts save occasionally to mate.
