wise • relaxed • chocolate-lover Have you tried this season's batch? Merlot loves chocolate. She grew up with increasingly expensive tastes, quickly moving on from milk chocolate to rich, dark chocolate treats. Once she became of age, she promptly joined up with a merchant caravan that specialized in all manner of luxury foods, apparel, and other non-essentials. She traveled all over Sornieth with them, learning the value and rarity of the delicious dark chocolates she loved so much. She also got to experience a wide variety of dragonmade wines and liqueurs, and befriended vineyard owners and chocolatiers all over. She became excellent friends with Simon of Clan Starslang, who piqued her interest in dark chocolate red wines. Merlot decided to strike out on her own as a merchant of high-end wines after determining on her own the best wines in Sornieth; she ended up traveling similar routes to her old caravan, making new connections and dropping in on old friends, and garnered a reputation as a dragon of excellent tastes. She found it exceedingly easy to trade chocolates for the incredible wines she offered and never wanted for more. In her solo travels, she happened across Rocher working in his clan's vineyard. She fell for him when he offered her a furtive sip of his own century old cask of Pinot Noir. She stayed with Rocher's clan for a little while, but soon had to continue her work. She wanted to find that perfect taste for herself. When Simon sent her an incredible new, fruity dark chocolate in exchange for her latest shipment of wine, she asked where he got his ingredients. That chocolate held the taste she had been seeking. He told her about Persephone's Garden, protected by Clan Cornifer. She decided to visit Persephone herself, and was stunned by her beautiful garden. Moreover, there was more than enough verdant land around Cornifer's vault to create more than that... Perhaps even her own vineyard. Rocher had the same idea when he saw it for himself. It was to both of their shock when Bukere came to Merlot and offered the land. She couldn't have all of it, no, but she would be given enough space for her and Rocher to start their own vineyard, with the agreement that it would be protected by Cornifer's Guard and she would keep a barrel or five for Cornifer, especially for feasts and celebrations. Since then Merlot has sung Bukere's praises, and she and Rocher have created an incredible wine when paired with a certain, fruity dark chocolate.
