Biography

Eris
Clever | Sarcastic | Troublemaking
Greek Goddess of Chaos, Strife, and Discord

A Wisp flies through the dim lighting of the Wood, weaving in and out of the trees. The very essence of the Shadowbinder seems to be overtaking her as her hide appears to have shadows creeping over it. From her tail a Silver Tail Bauble dangles, emitting a faint blue glow. Many Trickster Wisps prefer the green glow of a Copper bauble, but she is more at home with this one. Many of the other Trickster Wisps have begun to avoid her, her questions of why they mislead travelers confusing and foreign. Tricksters typically find joy in this folly and never has any of them questioned it.

Most nights the Tricksters spend their time seeking out wary dragons and lead them astray, condemning them to a journey to nowhere. Tonight, Eris decides to approach things differently, not searching for anyone, but just enjoying the wind over her wings. She slows at the sight of another blue glow from a bauble dangling from a dragon's tail.

Her companion, a Shadow Sprite born of the dripping shadows that ooze forth from the Mother, emerges from its hiding spot and peers around her horns to try and get a better look, as well. The two attempt to remain hidden while peering through foliage and underbrush. Unfortunately, when your belly glows in the darkness of the Wood, it's not very easy to hide. The light shifts to the side and an even more surprising sight is beheld: another glowing, white underbelly!

Eris is not familiar with any other Tricksters who share her love for the Silver bauble, so she has no idea who this could be. She suddenly remembers their counterparts, the Guiding Wisps, and immediately becomes anxious. She has never encountered a Guide before and did not know much about them. All she knew is that they were the same only in appearance. Some tall tales had been told as she was a hatchling about how Guides were the antithesis of the Tricksters and that the two species held great negativity toward the other, but she had never confirmed this.

The Guide breaks the silence and speaks: "Hello? My name is Hermes. I can't say that I recognize you from around here. Where do you call home?"

She doesn't respond, frozen by some foreign feeling, her mind blank and heart racing. The only sound that is heard in reply is the whispers of her familiar who answers for her.

The Guide responds: "Eris, huh? From the grove to the West. I know these woods well, but I have yet to explore that region. What brings you here?"

Eris, still stunned by this uncomfortable paralysis, manages to respond with just one word: "You."

Trickster Wisps are a special breed of Nocturne with dark, usually speckled hides and glowing white bellies with purple hued wings. Tricksters, always female, lead dragons astray from their paths through the Tangled Woods to be lost in the undergrowth. It is wise not to follow the bobbing tail lights of the Nocturnes, for the females are known to carry themselves as a male to try and trick the dragons wandering in the dark. It is wise to try and stall these dragons, as the females get impatient if a dragon is not willing to come to them and will leave them alone.

In another spin, the Tricksters love riddle games. If someone is capable of outsmarting them in a game of wits, they have gained the respect of the Trickster, and are given a copper lantern to wear on their tail. It gives off a green light, and this is a sign of favor among the Nocs. While on their travels, dragons will not be accosted by Tricksters if they wear this sign, and indeed the Tricksters will turn helpful instead, leading them to shelter and food, often sharing their own nests, which tend to be filled with stolen baubles and trinkets.
