Shadow
Hatched on Samhain, Shadow was an omen of bad luck. Driven out of her parent's clan soon after hatching, Shadow was confused and afraid. For days, she stumbled around in the dead of night, trying to find somebody - anybody. She didn't, for a long time. Shadow wandered far and wide that first night before the sun rose, coming out a changed spiral. The sun was so bright, it hurt her eyes as it rose. That was her first time seeing the sun, and she didn't like it. Shadow was lost in the darkness for so long she took it as her name, one of the only words she overheard often enough to know by heart - it was her heart. Slithering through dead branches and darkened stone, she came across a Tengu Caller. Remnant, his name was. And remained he did, her constant companion in her wanderings. |
The loneliness, only companion a maddened Tengu, drove Shadow mad. She started overly delighting in the tricks she had picked up from other dragons devoted to the Shadowbinder. Causing mischief and havoc, dealing witchy favors with the desperate (her favorite trick she had picked up).
One day, it went too far. She had struck a deal with the parents that cast her out, they unknowing. Their wish for the ultimate sacrifice to the Shadowbinder ended up sacrificing them - leaving them as shades haunting the living. The clan, the only one she had ever belonged to, even if it was only for a few hours, hunted her.
Shadow used every ounce of agility she had, every bit of knowledge Remnant had learned. She escaped. Diving into the sea, blending in with the night - for that was the only time of day Shadow was active. Her coloring alone, in the end, was the thing that prevented that clan from sacrificing her as well. She swam and swam until Remnant nearly had to carry her. Laying upon those green shores, Shadow couldn't take anymore. Her vision faded black.
