Nightshade's Apprentice and Mate
"Nightshade?" The hopeful young mirror peered into Nightshade's den, a small cluttered room with multiple cauldrons and shelves of potions. "Yes, uh, what was it, Larkspur?" she replied. Larkspur nodded eagerly. "Yeah, uh, Larkspur. I was wondering if you could...um...show me how to make a potion." Nightshade didn't look up from her book. "Sure, sure, can you bring me three manticore mane strands from that jar over there?" Larkspur carefully pulled three strands out of the jar, wondering how exactly she had obtained them, and brought them to her. "Alright dear, what potion do you want to know how to make?" she asked as she stirred in the strands into the bubbling black concoction with a long thick spoon. "A love potion, I'm sure, or perhaps you're hoping for a scroll? That'll cost you a pretty penny," she chuckled. Larkspur looked at the ground. "Um, anything really. I just want to learn." Nightshade placed the spoon down, surprised. "Really? You just want to learn how to make potions?" Larkspur nodded. "Well why didn't you just say so! Grab the potionbook and find one you like," she gleamed.
After that day, Larkspur became her faithful apprentice. His appearance changed greatly, his belly shining brightly and his form changing to a lankier and more graceful breed, but his passion never strayed from brewing. On the day that he was finally advanced enough to make his own poison and toxin scrolls, he made his final transformations and confessed his love to Nightshade. Not too long after, they became permanent mates, and although they're nearly at the same skill level he still considers himself the apprentice.
