Backstory
Also known as Plagueweenies, these dragons were bred and sacrificed year-round to satisfy Plaguebringer's hunger. Now, the sacrifice happens only once a year during the Riot of Rot.
This subspecies is bred year-round to host and feed the Riot of Rot - literally. In older days, they were unwillingly sacrificed to Plaguebringer in hopes to satisfy her immense hunger and for a Clan to gain favor with her. Their peculiar colorations - and faint scent of roasted beef - led to the belief that they were comprised of foods and deemed ‘Plaguebringer’s Feast’; small groups of them were kept and hatchlings were grown to be sacrificed.

Only so much of this was tolerated until the Plaguefeeders started rebelling in the worst possible way: hunting down dragons and often killing and eating them in front of the victim’s mate and/or clan. Attempted extermination of the so-called ‘food’ dragons took place, and was nearly successful.

However, hatchlings were given to and hid within clans of other territories and elements, leading them to adopt the diets of the dragons that had adopted them. They bred within these clans and created their own, and years went by quietly.

In times of famine, however, these descendants returned to the Plaguefeeders's ways of cannibalism. It is believed that survival was their only concern during these periods. Their clans began to grow suspicious of their behaviour, and some eventually caught onto what these food-colored dragons were. Many were chased out of their clans, and an unlucky handful were even brought down by their former clanmates. Now, questioning their inherent urges and why they had them at all, small groups began to make their way to their homeland to learn more about their heritage.
Riot of Rot
Plaguefeeders make excellent cooks and chefs. They are usually the ones working to create the feasts for the Riot, creating all sorts of spicy meat dishes, and utilize one special ingredient: themselves. Among the younger generations, it is considered an honor to provide the Flight with something substantial and offer themselves up to their kin and deity for consumption. The hatchlings have even started talking about it in a way that makes it seem as if they are rebelling against the 'old ones', their ancestors - much the way the ancient Plaguefeeders rebelled against those who sacrificed them. It is assumed that this idea came from the contrast of their ancestors, who were so concerned with survival that they were willing to eat their clanmates, to the younger ones who willingly sacrifice themselves for their clanmates instead.

Before the feasting begins during the Riot of Rot, an exhibition for ‘sacrifice’ is held. An elder of the Plaguefeeders is the one responsible for the death of the to-be-sacrificed. Though those within the Plague Flight know this to be real, it is played off for the sake of the other ten Flights. Tastes of this rare ‘treat’ is offered those outside of the flight, though it is not recommended for those with weak immune systems due to the traces of food-borne illnesses a Plaguefeeder is known to carry; examples of this are trichinosis, salmonella, e-coli and botulism.
Behaviours
Modern Plaguefeeders don’t typically hunt other dragons; this is a last resort used to keep themselves alive with shortages of food in the Wasteland. This, however, can happen often due to their constant and ravenous hunger.

They tend to be a violent species, and have no regard for pain because they themselves don’t have much of a sense for it. A Plaguefeeder’s pain receptors register at a much slower rate than normal, most of the time causing them to hunt or fight until they collapse where they stand and bleed out.

Hatchlings can be taught to adopt non-cannibalistic diets, but cannibalism is intrinsic to the subspecies and can therefore never been removed entirely. If brought up in a clan not of their subspecies, they will adopt the diet of the clan they live with. They are capable of living their entire lives without so much as thinking of consuming another dragon’s flesh, unless circumstances force them back into previously taught habits.
Symptoms
Plaguefeeders aren’t a contagious species, but it is easy to identify them from other dragons. The first and foremost ‘symptom’ is the faint beef scent that wafts from them. Immunity to foodborne illness is another symptom, as well as an insatiable hunger. Delays of pain if wounded are another indicator of a Plaguefeeder, and if caught in a fight, a want to continue battling until they literally drop dead is very common.
Regions
Though descendants of Plaguefeeders are found in every region, true dragons of this species aren’t suited to living outside of the Scarred Wasteland; too many diseases are carried within them to safely live with a clan that doesn’t have the immunity to disease that those within the Plague Flight possess.
