It's progenitors were organizing the few other dragons who had joined them, and Nightfall needed a lair to rest at. Though a water flight native, the Nocturne blood that is so closely tied to the Shadowbinder, courses through his veins like an ancient brook meandering through a secret forest. One cannot say whether he will stay with the clan very long, not much is known about Nightfall other than he's become very powerful since that night he joined the clan. He doesn't say much nor interfere in clan politics. He does his duties and leaves it at that.
