He had heard of them. He hadn’t been sure what to make of them, but he had definitely heard of them. A strange, new type of dragon cropping up around sorienth….mostly the scarred wasteland. They ran in large packs, some said, others said it was usually just two or three, always mirrors. Well. Almost always. There had been rumors of some Nocturnes, as well, but he had heard that only once. They bore white and obsidian colors, they were as a whole loud, crazy, near-suicidal. Some said they truly were suicidal. He had to see them for himself.
When he finally did, Balefire was astounded by what he saw. The rumors he had heard were every bit true and then some. These dragons were insane. They would be perfect brawlers if he could get his claws on one. Oh, did he ever get one.
Vex was brought to him as a pup. An angry, snapping, snarling pup who wanted nothing to do with the dark mirror she was handed off to at the crossroads. She remembers the smirk on his face as he looked at her that first time. She had hated it, and so she had attacked him Of course, it didn’t work out well. She was merely scooped up and taken back to his lair, to be trained as a brawler in the coliseum. It wasn’t long after she was taken, however, that the clan’s leader brought in a second pup. This one, however, was different. A different breed, and a shiny hide. She called him Chrome, and the name stuck. It had annoyed her, at first, that the thing copied her, but she grew used to it, and he grew out of it. Kind-of.
As she grew older, Balefire took her under his wing to train her in the coliseum, one of only two dragons he ever mentored. She hated the other. Only cowards use magic to defeat enemies. Well. Cowards or blind dragons with fire-spewing guitars.
Much to the dismay of several of the clan’s other members, she never grew out of her snippy personality, and is often found slinking around the lair, picking fights with other dragons because she finds it fun. She also never grew out of the crazy that seems to be in-born in these war dragons, having absolutely no regard for her own life, or the lives of her team mates, only focused on her goal of defeating the enemy or dying in the attempt. Most of the clan can honestly say it scares them, and they fear one day she may turn on them, or even turn on Balefire himself.
Speaking of the clan, there are very few she can and/or will hang around, or even put up with for any length of time. Two of which are Chrome and (“Thank the gods!” the clan cries) Doof, the dragons who make up her coliseum team. No one is quite sure how she’s able to put up with Doof, but she and Chrome seem to be the only two dragons in the clan that he doesn’t bother with his incessant guitar noise and randomly spewing fire. Truth be told, she rather likes it. And truth be told, the rest of the clan is more than happy to let him leave with her.
The other, however, is Desert, and no one quite understands that one, either.
