SHUNT
Apprentice / Storywriter Shunt is the adopted son of Astral and Astraeus. The two of them were out looking for an open field on a clear night to view the super lunar eclipse, and stumbled upon him--literally. How an Ice dragon got to The Windswept Plateau is a mystery to them, but they have taken him in, teaching him about gems and stars. Astraeus hoped he would take an interest in astronomy, but both he and Astral were looking forward to raising him. What they didn't realize at first was that Shunt is blind. Shunt was born on the night of a super lunar eclipse, and was born blind. The eyes of Ice hatchlings are extremely pale, and they can be mistaken for being blind until they have grown up a bit. Not knowing or understanding why Shunt was born actually blind, his blood parents grew angry and thought perhaps they were being punished, though they did not know the answer to that question either. Shunt had overheard their plans to exalt him to Icewarden and ran away before they could attack him. Not knowing what direction he was going, he landed in Wind territory, specifically the edges of this clan's territory. Exhausted, cold, and afraid, Shunt didn't even move when someone had tripped over him. It was only after he had been lifted up and cradled did he open his eyes, and feigned being able to see so that maybe they would be nice to him and eventually leave him alone. After all, it was not uncommon for hatchlings to be seen wandering about looking for new clans, or so he had heard. But instead he had been wrapped in a soft blanket and soothed into sleep, and later woke up wrapped in thick blankets by the heat of a fire. He feared what the two dragons would do when they found out he was blind and tried to escape. But, being in unfamiliar territory, he ran into a wall by mistake and passed out and later awoke again in what smelled like a healer's room. There his blindness was publicly discovered, and where he met the two dragons who loved him like his own blood parents should have. Shunt had found a home. Shunt has a younger sister (also adopted), Fenrir, and a French Bulldog named Fisk that is his seeing eye service dog. Shunt and Fenrir live together near the marketplace and town square. |
