Not your commonplace librarian, Cara goes great lengths to find the most beneficial, informational, and well written words for her clan. While she does spend some time tending to the library and taking care of the ever-growing collection, she spends most of her work traversing the land, looking for the best, and often times legendary tomes to expand the library, and gain ever valuable information. While most overlook her work and job as menial and unimportant, those who look closely know the true value of the expansive library, and the coatl that was responsible for the incredible feat. Cara is often forgotten and her work ignored, the many dragons that use the expansive library not realizing the immensity and value of the resources that are commonplace to them. However, the young coatl pays them no mind, and couldn't care less about things like the limelight or getting the recognition she deserved. The only thing she cares about is the written word. Cara values all words the same, from a simple children's story to the most sought after tome on alchemy in the land. Words hold knowledge, and the young coatl knew the true value of that knowledge, whether it be a recipe for a cake, or the perfect strategy to win a war. Because of the frequent journeys she takes, the library would often be left unattended. This problem was solved when one day, Cara finally found an imperial with the same love of words as she. For months now, there had been a lingering panic at the back of Cara's mind. Walking back to the center of the lair and her charge, her pace quickened as she finally let herself dwell on the pressing problem at hand. Because of the her never-ending search for new and better books, she was often gone from the library, which means she could not complete the primary and most important duty of her role: looking after the books, and protecting them from any destructive dragon that may enter. Damn. If any one of those infernal spirals so much as dog-eared a page in shelf three, I'm going to twist them in such a knot that not even Silence will be able to see how to get them out Finally, coming upon the entrance of the library, Cara flew the last small stretch and quickly entered the hall to reaffirm herself that her charges were safe, and not in fact shredded on the floor at the hands of her ignorant clannmates. Taking in her surroundings, she immediately calmed upon the comforting smell of the old pages, and the light filtering through the stained glass in the falling dusk. With a sigh she relaxed her body and started the walk to the back, to check on the shelves in greater detail. Suddenly she stopped, the corner of her eye catching what seemed like movement coming from the large stained glass window near the top of one of the walls. There, the sunlight was gently reflecting from the scales of a beautiful imperial slowly gliding along the length of a shelf. Shocked that someone was still in the library at such an hour, Cara paused, simply observing the quiet visitor from the shadows. They continued along the rows of the shelf until a book caught their eye. Cara watched as the imperial that looked like shining bronze glass gently took a simple gray tome from the shelf, and slowly returned to the tables. Watching the claws of the newcomer skeptically, Cara waited. As the imperial finally settled on the lower level, they opened the book with a reverence Cara had rarely seen in Sornieth, let alone among the members of her clan. Cara's eyes widened, as the unknown imperial continued to peruse the book, treating it as gently as a small animal, yet as confident in her movements as the tick of a clock. This is the one. Finally, after a long time of waiting in the shadows, Cara revealed herself. ....and the younger imperial did not even look up. Impatient with her underlying excitement, Cara cleared her throat and stood in front of the reader. "So, what do you think of the collection?" The young imperial, though obviously surprised, carefully and calmly closed the book before answering, "It's so amazing, so many stories and worlds in one place." As she said this, the shining dragon looked around with hungry eyes. "Are you a visitor to the clan?" Cara held her breath for the answer. "...no. But I have only just arrived." After Cara pinched herself to see if she were dreaming, she answered with finality: "Well! If you've only gotten here, then you have no duties yet, correct? How would you like to be a librarian's assistant?" |
