"Chama, what shall we create today?"
The hulking, obsidian body isn't actually alive - it's a vessel, housing an ancient Fire demon like a crystalline cage. If one looks closely they can see that the eyes are just empty sockets, the light from within shining out through the carved holes in an unblinking stare. Despite this lifeless gaze, Poe always has a look of melancholy. Most spirits appear as wisps, materializing for fleeting moments through magical tears before vanishing again, easily missed as they flirt with the plane they once inhabited. A particularly resilient Fire demon found a way to wander the living world for longer periods of time, wiggling his way through newly made tears and possessing the body of a lesser creature. But this was always temporary, as he would be cast out when his strength waned or the animal was eaten by a hungry dragon. So he searched for another solution to his plight, eventually coming across Malefica. Sensing the lurking spirit the enchantress called him forth and listened to his request. Seeing a chance to test out a new spell she had developed and a way to showcase her prowess, Malefica granted his wish. She tethered the Fire demon to his current body, an immortal spirit free to walk amongst the living. During the ritual she gave him the name Poe, inevitably binding him as her servant, the symbol that floats about his head a seal to this contract. Growing bored of her project, Malefica gifted Poe to the wandering blacksmith Chama. He now acts as the Lady of Iron's forge, his fires always burning at the perfect temperature for whichever ore she currently works with. At first only following the Spiral out of his involuntary servitude, Poe now sees Chama as a friend. Her sympathy and optimism is greatly appreciated and their frequent travels together has brought joy to the lost demon's life.
