Sybella is secretly a seer. If she gazes into her pearl she can she what she wishes to. Although she cannot wish to see something too specific, as her pearl does not respond to that. Her wish is almost always to see the nearest forthcoming tragedy to her clan, so that she may prevent it. Not all of them have to be life threatening. Even if you just fell down the stairs and would have broken a leg, Sybella will be there to stop it. Most of her clanmates just think she has very good timing, others think it's a bit more than that. Everyone would say that Sybella is a nice, kind, selfless dragon—but she's doesn't feel that way. She feels selfish, having hidden her ability when others could use it. The truth is that's she's scared; scared of not making it on time, scared of being blamed, scared of being hurt. The phrase "don't bite the messenger" often runs through her head when she is about to tell someone, reminding her that things happen to messengers if dragons have to be reminded not to bite them. And in her mind, she's just the messenger of the future. Better to keep it hidden, so that she can help those who she can and not be blamed by others for those she cannot. Nothing's keeping her from blaming herself, though. Sometimes dragons mean to hurt themselves. Sometimes the psychological pain is enough for it to show them on her pearl. Either way, Sybella always ends up talking to them, comforting them, helping them. She's become a therapist, of sorts. More often, thought, dragons just need someone to talk to, someone who knows and can give good advice. Sybella is often around, as she has no job. So consultant sneakily became her job until one day she just realized it was. |
