As a hatchling, they were mortally wounded after they traveled too close to an erupting volcano. It should have killed them, but a brilliant scientist took pity on them and scooped them out--but even she could not fully reverse the damage. Scale and bone, heat and ash--once these elements are forced together, they do not separate easily. So rather than try and revert them back to what they once were, the dragon used what they had and reshaped them into something entirely new. For many years after they stayed by the scientist's side, working as her assistant and learning to control their new body. But by the time they had grown up, they had become desperately unhappy with their living situation. The lab was in the frigid cold of ice territory where they could barely venture outside, and they has grown to distrust the scientist. Eventually, they were able to convince another of her creations to help them leave, and they have not looked back since. When it comes to personality, they are quiet but very sociable. They can be quite mischievous, and enjoy playing small pranks on others. They have a deep love for music and theater, although their tastes are dubious. Visually, the most noticeable thing about them is their literal glow--active magma flows through their core and it can be seen through their scales in some places, especially their wings. They are also rather chubby, and--due to being made largely out of mechanical parts and molten rock--are unnaturally heavy for a dragon their size. They cannot fly, but may use their wings to glide briefly. if injured, the "blood" will eventually cool and scab over into a rough sooty rock, in time this will fall away, revealing new scales underneath. They may consume molten metals and rocks--their preferred diet-- to speed up this process. While they were born a wind elemental, their powers are now heat and fire based. They can breath fire and smoke--though they have little interest in hurting others and will only do so if they felt threatened. Their temperature fluctuates with their emotional state and environment. At their calmest, they are generally feverish to the touch.Fire and heat will invigorate them, while cold temperatures can prove dangerous, as their outer hide with start to cool and harden--making it difficult to move and eventually putting them into a hibernation-like state. They love to travel, but stick to that of warm, humid environments. As of recently, they have been spotted in wind territory, on a search for their birth clan. |
Name: Bubbles Relationship: Familiar Hester's little friend. It gathers fruit and trinkets for them in exchange for a safe home from predators. No one but Hester is able to tell them apart from other hardshells. Are you sure it's the same one? |

Hester looks so good and firey! Between the accent, the Tiger and the Facet (which is another situational gene that looks wonderful on them), they look just like a lava dragon! I also adore your use of the wings here – they bring in a darkness that works really nicely, without being overwhelming. Also, the fact that they’re nonbinary makes me very, very happy. Their lore’s so cute – a playful, fiery dragon, who literally has magma in their veins! Love them.
