When Thanatos hatched, she hatched alone as a single egg. On the shore of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, she was lost, new to the world with no idea were she stood in the food chain in this strange world. Suddenly, she saw a vision, and it was to guide her. Within this vision, she saw a pool in which she could create a home for herself. She would be safe there because she would be protected by the Tidelord and is tsunamis. She would gain new companions who would join her clan, compete for resources, and create bloodlines.

Joined by her first companion, Lio, family and the clan came to be the most important aspect of their life. She was Lio's charge. Lio and Thanatos became so close to he could have been her shell-siblings, born from the very same clutch. They trained each other descendants, with his granddaughter, Chioni, becoming Thanato's greatest apprentice. Now Chioni stands strong as her second in command, fighting in the coliseum by her side. Though it pained her, eventually after having his family, he decided it was time to answer a higher calling. He wished to travel to The Spiral Keep to be with the Tidelord and serve a higher cause.

Thanatos believes in the bond of shell-siblings, keeping them together in the hatchery as they are schooled and training them in their apprenticeship under the same teacher. These bonds are so strong, that it is very common for shell-siblings to take each other hatchlings as their apprentices.
