Kvothe is the main character from the "Kingkiller Chronicles" by Patrick Rothfuss. The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear are book 1 & 2 of the series. Book 3 has not yet been finished.

He was born to leaders of the Edema Ruh, which basically meant a normadic preforming troupe. His family preformed all manner of plays and music to any townspeople that didn't chase them away. Living on the road with not only his parents but many other entertainers, Kvothe learned as much as he could from every person that joined the Edema Ruh. From survival, to hunting, to basic sympathy he wanted to learn as much as his mind would allow.

It is hard to summarize Kvothe without telling the entire story as the Kingkiller Chronicles are about his life, so his summary will be missing a lot.

Kvothe was faced with tragedy overnight causing him to be alone and making him question if the Chandrian had returned, even though everyone he encountered after this key point refused to believe that anything was left of the Chandrian.

Kvothe had to battle his way to survive some of the roughest of streets, learning to always be leaps and bounds ahead of his enemy. Fighting through many set backs Kvothe finally lands at the University where he struggles to pay the high tuition fees that change from one semester to the next. Kvothe meets Devi, a young but ruthless loan shark who gives him the money to attend the University. Owing Devi favors for a failed loan repayment was something he dealt with creatively and effectively.

Beyond this I'll just say to read the series, as any more summarizing and it would be nothing more than spoilers and that would not be good.
