Baulson's appearance makes many falter and hesitate when approaching him. However, he is rather lovable, the brawn behind Ashes brains. That, of course, isn't to say that Baulson is incompetent by any means. He is the Alchemist for the Nepodoban Clan. He and Ashes had been together since the beginning of time, or at least, they hatched around the same time, almost instantly developing a bond as they both looked different than the rest of their nest mates. Because of this, they were shunned. Ready to face the wide, wide world without the assistance of a clan, Ashes and Baulson embarked upon their own journey as soon as they were able.

Having taken on the role of 'muscle' early on, it didn't take long for it to become apparent what Baulson's true interest was: alchemy. With Ashes' permission, Baulson sectioned off a part of the lair to be his own, not for sleeping, but for experimenting. He was a natural, brewing potions and draughts to keep their clan healthy and thriving, but the first big accident occurred when he wasn't watching what he was tossing into the pot, and it boiled over, splashing on his wings. This gave him a bit of a mottled effect, one that Ashes liked so much, she asked him to recreate the 'accident' so that her wings could be mottled in a similar fashion.

The second accident occurred many moons later, when Baulson had been working tirelessly for several days with minimal sleep. He mixed up his 'cauldron water' and his 'not cauldron water' glasses, drinking from the wrong one. The result was a 'liquid belly' as he calls it, and while he's not a fan of it, he clearly labels his drinking glass now.
