Starseer
/stär sir/

Founder and overseer of the Clan of Unseen Stars, as well as the night sky he holds so dear.

--

No matter where you are at any time, beneath the overwhelming light of day, or a night masked by heavy cloud, or even a place where you can see nothing at all, the stars are still shining up above you.
Even if you cannot see them, they are always there.

--

Starseer was born in a modest lair on the outskirts of the Crystalspine Reaches, to humble parents who cared much for him, and the study of stars and magic. Care though they did for him, they were nevertheless perplexed, when their hatchling grew, to realize he had no voice. Whenever he wanted something, he would either try to mimic his request with gestures of his talons, or stare pointedly at it, with his large, magenta eyes - and sometimes both, if his parents really didn't understand what he asked for.
They pressed him multiple times if he could speak, and encouraged him to even make the smallest, most insignificant noises at all, simply to prove he had a voice, though try as he might, he could not emit a peep.
And so, however reluctantly, his parents accepted the fact that their son was mute. Starseer never seemed much bothered by this.
His father was a passionate astrologist, and his mother a devout magician. From each of them, he learned a good deal of the stars, and how to properly harness his bursting magic potential. He also, now, discovered an immense love of the little lights, that flickered and glowed, winking at him from so far away in the otherwise dark night sky.
He had actually been without a name for several weeks, as his parents were woefully indecisive, though once they saw his fascination with watching the stars, his name became Starseer. For that was both who, and what, he was.

When Starseer was only a few months old, one morning, he awoke to find his vision patched and blotchy, great spots of black eliminating multiple portions of his field of vision, and his head felt so pressured, he was scared it might burst. Terrified, he gestured wildly to his parents to let them know something was horribly wrong, and they acted quickly, sending rapid summons to the Observatory for the realm's most excellent physician.
By the time the physician arrived, Starseer's sight had completely left him, and he was then alone, voiceless, in the dark.

The physician regretted to inform his parents, that after a careful examination, nothing could be done for the dragonet. Nor did he have any explanation, save some sort of disease, for why Starseer's eyes were now, startlingly, colorless, and had gained a milky look to them, only further proof that he could no longer see. As was unfortunately expected, as no reason could be found, no cure could, either.
For many days, Starseer stayed curled up, small and miserable, in his nest, hiding away in agony as every part of his small body ached - especially his head, which always felt as though it were being split open. Try as his parents might, they could do nothing to tempt him out until his pain subsided and his misery grew less.

After a week, he dared to stumble from his nest, and found his parents immediately there to catch him.
Learning to live in a world with no voice had been trouble enough, and now to adapt to a world with no sight as well, felt to be nothing short of impossible for Starseer - and his parents, as well, who no longer knew what to do with their poor dragonet.
So, they spread word far and wide that they sought someone to teach Starseer the ways of the world, when he was condemned to darkness and personal silence as he was, and soon enough, their call was answered, and a beautiful dragon alighted upon their cave, all the way across Sornieth, from the Sunbeam Ruins.
She explained her plans to Starseer's parents, introduced herself to the young dragon, and stayed in the Starfall Isles for some time, until Starseer accepted her as a member of the family.
She then proposed the second part of her plan, to take the young one back with her to the Sunbeam Ruins, and teach him everything the followers of the Lightweaver knew. Starseer agreed to this, as did his parents, and the following day, the mentor and the apprentice were off across the continent.
