When Nyota joined the Starling clan as a hatchling, Cumulonimbus and Kynara named her the Swahili word for star, and thought she would turn out like Snefnug. However, though she was compassionate, she wasn't a fighter. She went through rudimentary training, but even as a hatchling she knew her true calling was the arts. Her paintings cover the lair, and she makes jewelry and clothing by hand. She always praises the power of a good first impression, and makes everyone look their best at social gatherings. She is continually exasperated by the military division, and tells them nearly every day that fashion doesn't have to be sacrificed for practicality. In fact, she made India's jacket, and he makes a point of wearing it in front of her, and taking it off to battle monsters so it doesn't get dirty. Nyota's first mate was Snefnug's son Malik, and she had three daughters with him: Mavra, Tela, and Eldfjall. However, when Mavra went off to join another clan and then was forced to join Windsinger's forces against her will, Malik went after her, knowing there would be no turning back. Time passed, and another fae by the name of Hyeseong joined the Starling clan. They fell in love, and had three hatchlings: Pop, Weblyn, and Inigo. However, the three hatchlings weren't happy here, so they sent all three to Winsinger's ranks, with instructions to find Malik and Mavra and live with them. She and Hyeseong decided that their relationship wasn't working, so they cut it off. She still likes him, but they've permanently friend-zoned each other. She hasn't heard back from Malik or any of her exalted children, but she lives in hope.
