Anyone can be a princess when they are truly loved

Right out of the egg, Rosehip was always . . . different. She wasn't born into Clan Redfoot, but came here as an adult, after always being an outsider in her home clan. Of course, the reason was fairly obvious. Snappers can't really be subtle. She was always self-conscious about her size, her clunky form, her stubby horns, her general body shape. And then there was the . . . hardware. She envied the graceful Skydancer girls with their delicate wings and slender limbs. For a long time, she was convinced that there was no way she would ever be one of them. She tried to join in the games that the big male dragon youths played, but more often than not ended up hiding somewhere by herself to scratch out pictures in the dirt.

Her life changed dramatically one day (for the first time) when the hatchling caregiver from Clan Redfoot, the genderqueer Coatl Tacca, came to exchange hatchlings with her home clan. They immediately recognised in the uncomfortable young Snapper family. They took Rosehip aside and spoke quietly with her, staying close during the entirety of their visit. Before returning home, Tacca spoke to Rosehip's parents and asked if they would be willing to let their son come with Tacca as a much-needed assistant in the hatching grounds. The older, conservative Snappers readily agreed, happy to be rid of the growing boy who was becoming more and more of a topic of conversation around the clan.

It was on the journey home that Tacca told Rosehip that her body and how she was formed had little to do with who she was. By the time they reached Clan Redfoot she was no longer slinking close to the ground but walking proudly with her tail held high, and introduced to her new clan with her own name and her own pronouns.

Though there were still times when Rosehip struggled with her size and the circumstances of her birth, she was happy in her new home. She helped Tacca and Idaeus with the eggs and the hatchlings, and spent time with the artists and craftsmen of the clan. With their constant support and encouragement, she began to contribute her own artistic talents towards the beautiful clothes and jewelery created by the others. Still, even though her life was more perfect than she had ever imagined possible, some part of her was sure that she would remain forever unattached, that no male would want a big ugly boy in a dress for a mate.

That was when she had her second dramatic life changing day. Tugtupite, the biggest Snapper Rosehip had ever seen, his speckled body ridged with pure muscle mass (except for the pudgy little glimmer belly that results from a love of deep-fried donuts), swaggered into Clan Redfoot and fell head over heels in love with the sweet artist. The two were almost instantly inseperable, even though it took Rosehip ages to believe that his interest was genuine and not mocking. She still isn't entirely sure, but Tugtupite patiently and persistently deflects every one of her self-criticisms and self-doubts.
