B I O G R A P H Y
Despite being a large and strong Ridgeback, Nerval would rather not get in any conflicts or enjoy battling other creatures. Instead, he would spend much of his time finding and identifying various plant species, grow herbs and vegetables for different uses – a beloved hobby of his. Unfortunately, his reclusiveness, quiet nature and love for plants gives off a warped image to others in the clan. Mostly it's the hatchlings that will spread rumours of his "strange behaviour" and watch him when he goes on walks/flights or tending to his plants. Nerval did somehow to build a bond with his then partner Iara. It isn't known how or when they met, but Iara and Nerval got along pretty well, well enough to get children with each other. This relationship didn't last long though. While Nerval did care about his children and was a great, caring father at first, it quickly fell apart. Whether it be from stress, anxiety or anything else from the environment that suddenly affected him - he was starting to neglect his children. His reclusive behaviour had returned and Iara couldn't figure out why – something Nerval couldn't understand either, but couldn't help it. Tending to his plants and being on his own was something he preferred. Iara saw it as him falling out of love, or he simply never loved her that way and was still confused about his emotions and feelings. Knowing she wouldn't be the one to help him with his problems, she told him that she loved him still and wished him well on his journey before leaving him and the clan. The children followed with their mother since they knew their father wouldn't be able to care for them that well. Nerval was once again alone. Was it really something he wanted? He was still uncertain of his decision and hated himself for it, sobbing while watering his plants. One day at an evening, a few years after his subsequent divorce, as Nerval was watering his plants and picking herbs, a stranger knocked on the door to his greenhouse. This confused him because no one ever visits him unless they wanted to pick up some plants. Opening the door he was met with a very bright and talk-active, but friendly Wildclaw by the door. The dragon, named Scowl, had joined the clan at some point and was looking for a friend. Seeing as most of the clan was busy or not interested, Scowl had spotted Nerval's secluded greenhouse and lair. Nerval, nervous and shy, couldn't say no to the friendly Scowl and allowed him inside his lair. Scowl was very fascinated and asked Nerval a lot of questions about the plants, which slowly opened the shy dragon up for him. It made him explain his extensive knowledge on the plants he collected and grew with excitement. Asking his new friend about his interests, Scowl then pointed to the dark, starlit sky and explained that he was an astronomer and a teacher. Both dragons spent almost all night talking and discussing various topics with passion and energy that Nerval hadn't experienced before – not even when he was with Iara. |

The dragons around the area noticed the significant change in mood and behaviour that Nerval now expressed towards other. While still a quiet and reserved dragon, he appeared happier and less in constant deep thought with his plants. He could interact with other members properly and sometimes have longer conversations, especially with Scowl. Local hatchlings and younger dragons suspected something was going on between the science teacher and the local hermit. They weren't wrong. It happened in secret. Nerval had long thought about it before discussing it with Scowl and was very sure of his feelings – he loved Scowl. The reason it took so long for him to say anything was because of his fear of being alone again, by not being accepted by his only friend, but he could not keep it within him any longer. It was starting to eat at him from within and he had to tell Scowl before it was too late. So, when Scowl visited him one late night, he finally professed his love for Scowl. Scowl only smiled and said, "You should have said something earlier, you goober. I love you too," while holding Nerval's much larger face. |
