 Varlan is different from most dragons. His egg was abandoned and found by a pack of wolves. They came across his egg right as it hatched, and decided to take him in. His pack raised him until one day, a pack of red wolves ambushed his pack, killing everyone but himself. Enraged by the deaths of family his inability to protect them, Varlan ventured out into the wasteland, swearing to become stronger to avenge his pack.

When he was found by the clan, he could not speak Draconic, and so communicating with him was rather difficult. After a few days of attempts at communication, Varlan decided to stay with the clan. He grew close to Benden, his now best friend.

Varlan is the "guard-dog" of the clan; he is very protective of the clan and keeps a close eye on the territory. While he has managed to learn some Draconic, he speaks in mostly fragments, and his actions are still very wolf-like. He is very good at fighting, and one of the strongest in the clan. .
