Moonstone was a very shy and quiet kid, a product of having a hard time communicating with the world around him. He would attempt to emulate his graceful adopted mother’s manners and way of speaking—even as he stuttered and stopped and squeaked, both Stormcloud and Petra, his nest-mate, were patient and kind. The friendship he and Petra developed grew very powerful, and when Petra decided to apprentice himself under Bao’s care, Moonstone followed suit. At first, it was like having a whole little world of their own; but increasingly Moonstone became aware that his ability to communicate and connect to the rest of the clan were failing again, and grew uncomfortable with the exclusivity of his life. So he decided to leave Bao’s instruction, much to Bao’s disdain and Petra’s unhappiness.

There were many months of frustration, as he dealt with the conflict between himself and his best friend, as well as doubling his efforts to connect to the rest of the clan—there were many lonely days and sleepless nights. But as he started to explore the terrain of their land with Terezi, as he fought next to Grathe, as he hunted with Fila and collected trinkets for the hatchlings and his fond adopted mother, he found his place. He and Grathe are very close, and together with Anwen and Karas form the bulk of the warrior force in the clan. He and Petra have reconnected, as well, and though times get tough, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Moonstone is tougher.
