Biography

Bukharin
The Ambassador
Council of Five | Minister of Foreign Affairs | Stubborn
Loyalty: Theia

"Diplomacy is simple. You can get anything done with a kind smile, careful words, and sharp claws."

Though born among the standing rocks of Cairnstone Rest, Bukharin was not to stay in the kingdom long enough to get to know the stones that composed his nest. The son of diplomats, Bukharin barely resided in one place long enough to make acquaintances, but he never minded. The world wasn't built for friendly dragons, after all.

He soon followed in his parents' footsteps, representing a diplomatic mission for his lair wherever they needed him. He was sent down to the Southern Icefields for a somewhat simple mission. With his schedule calculated down to the minute, he was to counsel a young ruler in the best ways to maintain control over his lair - a duty he could perform in record time. He just wasn't counting on her presence. That sorceress that shook every fibre of his being. His will was strong. His heart was not. They are opposites in their belief systems, but complement each other in many other ways. And so for Hestia he stayed, leaving to perform his duties for a new lair. And for her he wept, every time her past threatened to catch up. And with her he loved, more than he ever thought was possible.

In the lair, Bukharin holds the position as a member of the Council of Five, as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is in charge of all representatives sent to other clans, be them in official capacities or covert missions.

History

Diplomacy was in Bukharin’s blood before he was born. Though none are quite sure how they managed, and snide – though not necessarily untrue – remarks mention the exchange of favours or coin, both his parents managed to retain their statuses as ambassadors after marriage, and both continued to exercise their profession with dignity and pride.

This, however, meant that Bukharin was never to stay in his home nation long enough to get to know the stones and rocks that littered his nest. Always carried away in his parents’ missions, making acquaintances was Bukharin’s forte, though he never seemed to stay in one place for enough time to make friends. Nonetheless, he kept older dragons company in their tasks, maturing quickly and gaining enough knowledge by himself to be classified as a loner, but not one to be messed with.

Born into an intellectual elite, Bukharin grew up in museums, libraries and in the company of scholars, philosophers and thinkers. An extensive ethical and moral code, that he held to heart, guided him in his socio-political growth. Bukharin studied the languages and characteristics of different dragon breeds and other species which inhabited his lands. He became fluent in recognising subtle changes in tone and posture and found himself nearly impervious to flattery. He was steadfast and stubborn, but he was not afraid to get the job done - whatever the diplomatic mess might have been.

So when the opportunity came around for a dragon to become the chieftain of a party heading to the Southern Icefields, he did not think twice. His duties were far from easy, but he garnered enough contracts and riches whilst mentoring a young king that he quickly became a force to be reckoned with - and a new mission was already awaiting him upon his return. And then he met her.

Hestia was wild and uncontrollable, plagued with the scars of her past. She believed in mysticism and in the deities and in magic older than Sornieth itself. He was grounded and determined, with his future written out in stonework and set on a smooth path. He believed in order, in society and in structure. She had enough faith for the both of them. And he was able to anchor her to the ground.

He abandoned his post, much to his parents' dismay, and she took him to the only place she had ever been accepted. Bukharin was not impressed at first. The clan felt small, disorganised. He felt as if his skills would have no use in such a place. And then he bit his tongue. Though subtle, he could feel the potential the clan had under Theia, and soon declared his loyalty to her. In return, he gained someone to call, beyond just a leader, a friend.

Since then, Bukharin has been essential in helping the clan develop politically. Though sometimes brutal in his stances, he serves as an important representative of Verglas Shores' interests and functions as the clan's main ambassador.
