Signs of strength, mental or physical, impress him. Respecting whomever he is sparring against is very important to Flourish, and he despises any dragon who would use underhanded tricks. He often mumbles and is rather twitchy, having a habit of pacing or hopping from foot to foot as if the ground is charged with electricity. He has a very piercing gaze, which is often what many dragons notice first about him. While Flourish may appear stoic at first, he simply does not know how to present a good first impression. He's actually rather energetic and goes about living enthusiastically. He is Scymrian's "right claw man", meaning he is the second-in-command of the Dawn Guard. |

Like putting wings on lead Your eyes are blocking my starlight I'm the last of my kind And that's all that should matter to you To put it bluntly, Flourish was purchased from an orphanage to be raised as a warrior. Scymrian, realizing that Clan Morningstar lacked enough warriors, suggested that scouts be sent to find promising hatchlings that wouldn't be missed by other clans. She raised the sparkling dragon out of the Shifting Expanse herself, sensing his potential as a fighter. Scymrian named the small Wildclaw Flourish because of both his eye catching colors and the way he thrived more than the other forgotten hatchlings on the auction block. She assumed the hatchling would grow up a soldier, nothing more. As Flourish grew up, Scymrian found it harder to convince others that she kept Flourish in the same nest as Aster, her youngest daughter at the time, purely for convenience. Scymrian found Flourish's boundless energy endearing, and Flourish gradually began to feel as if Scymrian's family was his own. Although he was still but a hatchling, Scymrian began schooling Flourish in the essentials of being a warrior. When Flourish reached adolescence and had to formally begin his warrior training, Scymrian assigned him under the mentorship of Purge, a fellow Lightning dragon, because she felt that she could not fairly train her own son. So, Purge delved right into training Flourish, complete with waking up way too early for morning runs around the clan's territory. This was the description used to describe Flourish in the Great Flameforge Joust during Flameforger's Festival 2015: He fights for his friends! He's easily distracted by shiny things! And he really loves small birds! This member of the clan's Dawn Guard fights to gain honor and impress both Clan Morningstar's matriarch and his adoptive mother. Will he live up to the expectations of these venerable warriors? Will he ever speak louder than a mumble? Only time and some buttkicking will tell. Whether it'll be his own butt or someone else's butt is hard to tell. Those who are watching him are rooting for the latter. |
