In Deneb's first few moments of life, she pushed herself up on wobbling legs, stumbled out of her small nest, and toppled straight into the shallow pools of Singer's Brook. Her father acknowledged her affinity for the gentle streams that pooled around their home at once and set out to secure her safety before she grew too adventurous.

Deneb remained and, though barely more than a hatchling herself, watched over her unhatched siblings until her father's return. In his absence, she often wondered to herself if her love of the tides had driven her father away. When he returned from the Waterway and presented her with her own fins, all of her doubts were cast aside. She knew then that her father's love for her ran deeper than the sea.

Deneb's search for aspiring nestkeepers to take under her wing brought her to Azha's lair during many Festivals. The Coatl was barely older than her charges - a pair of exiles, wide-eyed and ghostly pale. Deneb was initially surprised by Azha's willingness to care for the twins and she sought them out purely out of curiosity. As time passed, Azha's twins grew strong - as did Deneb's admiration for their mother.

Deneb rarely found herself at a loss for words, but her early interactions with Syrma often left her feeling off-kilter. The Snapper’s approach to caring for the broods of hatchlings placed under her eyeseemed too unyielding for Deneb’s taste, and her propensity for wandering, often times with hatchlings in tow, worried the Skydancer to no end. When Syrma chose to sire her own hatchlings, she immediately entrusted her nest to Deneb, to the shock of absolutely no one - save the Skydancer herself.
