═══╡V E S P E R ╞═══
_Tactical Advisor • Retiree • Militia Volunteer Vesper’s egg was originally snatched away by Harpys during a raid by the Beastclans. They took her sister, Eventide, as well, but her twin was dropped on the border of the Sunbeam Ruins and the Tangled Wood, to be found later by the dragons of the Duskhollow Haven. Vesper, however, was bartered away by the Harpies to a tribe of Serthis. When she hatched, they used her mimicking tendencies to their advantage, shaping her into an assassin with which to strike back at the dragon clans. For several months, the Nocturne was convinced she was a Serthis, and fought hard for her tribe. It wasn’t until she was pitted against other Nocturnes that she began to suspect something was amiss. However, she was brutally punished for asking questions, and her missions became riskier and deadlier as time progressed. On one such mission, she was forced to use a poison whose fumes severely damaged her eyes. From then on, Vesper was blind. Her original caretaker, a Serthis assassin by the name of I’tidal, had grown attached to Vesper and finally took pity on the young Nocturne. She came to her with a warning: the tribe had decided that her usefulness had come to an end and was devising a way to eliminate her. With the help of I’tidal, Vesper fled and they were both pursued by the warriors of the tribe. They managed to lose them in the harsh terrain of the Ashfall Wastes, but they almost lost their own lives in the process. They quickly ran out of provisions on their journey and were found near death by the Duskhollow Haven. |
The dragons of Duskhollow proved uncomfortably curious, and the Nocturne and the Serthis secluded themselves from the rest of the clan for a long time. Through Eventide’s persistence and the clan’s habitual kindness, the two slowly began trust them enough to tell their history. I’tidal could recognize the similarities almost immediately, but a blood test officially proved that Vesper and Eventide were actually sisters. Feeling like she was finally somewhere she belonged, Vesper bonded with Eventide immediately, and Eventide works to help Vesper cope with her past.

I’tidal was assigned to raise Vesper when her egg was acquired from a caravan of Harpies. Quite unexpectedly, the little Nocturne endeared herself to her, and against all reason, the Serthis began to see the delusioned Nocturne as her own daughter, feelings that she tried desperately to suppress. When her tribe decided it was time to kill Vesper, I’tidal’s conscience couldn’t allow it. She warned Vesper of the deception and they both escaped. I’tidal does not blame Vesper for the animosity she holds toward the Serthis. She is contented enough to know that hatred does not extend toward the one that raised her, and I’tidal continues to view Vesper as her own child. |
