♛
Solari, a fire dragon through and through, had spent all of his childhood in the very heart of the Emberglow Hearth, being taught the metalworking trade. But during class, his eyes would always veer off into the fire, drowning out the teacher's voice and filling his mind with thoughts; dreams. Of one day becoming a great soldier, and battling in a glorious war against mighty enemies, vanquishing them without fault- before he notices the teacher staring him down with a question he doesn't know the answer to, and the rest of the class quietly laughing at him. He'd show them all, one day, just what he was made of. That day came sooner than anyone would have thought. Though a few years had passed, it still didn't seem long enough since the last provocation from the nature dragons. He hadn't trained much in his spare time, but he was old enough to join the ranks of soldiers, when a recruitment dragon passed through their clan. His parents worried over him nonstop as he was wheeled away, to go train properly, before the fire dragons' first assault on the Viridian Labyrinth. Well, not the first in all of Sornieth's history, but the first of this generation. It took a long while, but they were ready. Fire dragons marched and flew and rode across the land, heading straight for the beautiful green of the nature realm. Solari knew that this was right; he'd felt it in his bones since he was a child, and this was his moment. Then why did he have such a sinking feeling gathering in the pit of his stomach? They reached the edge of green lands, and lay in wait, only holding their positions for as long as it took the nearest clan to be alerted. Wouldn't want an unfair fight on our hands, would we. Sadly, that's all that was achieved. The nature dragons didn't stand a chance, having no weapons to defend themselves against the fully trained, fully armed fire dragons' onslaught. At the end of the battle, when the general called for a celebration, Solari turned to look behind him, and he saw nothing but destruction. People he thought were friends, kicking over half burnt trees to finish the job. People he trusted, sneering at a defenseless dragon cowering in fear. Pain and misery, and he was a part of it. He only made it halfway back to the Ashfall Wastes when he told his soldier friends, as serious as ever, that he was done. They looked at him like he was crazy, like he should be proud of what they'd done. But he only shook his head, and flew off in a different direction. It didn't take him long to find a quaint little shadow clan, who would take him in without much questions of where he came from, or why he was still dressed for war. He didn't think he'd ever really say. Who knew, would they turn him away if they knew the things he'd done? Send him back home to parents who've probably been told that he was a coward, who ran away from his problems thinking that they would cease to exist if he couldn't be found? So he stayed hidden, here in this neat little clan.. and vowed to its members, that he would protect them, no matter the cost.
