Sha Kreth
Beast Speaker

This large cavern is lit with natural light; a nice change from the torches and bioluminescent paint of the other caves and corridors. Bright feathers and brilliant scraps of cloth litter the floor, shining in the unexpected light from beyond the high ceiling. The midsize Guardian curled like a Sphinx at the far end of the room shines even more brightly, her scales polished to an almost unnatural sheen.

A small group of Centaur is gathered around her in various positions of relaxed attention; some stand, some sit curled at her feet. Several Harpies crowd the perches nearest the gathering, and you might have seen the flip of a scaled tail in one of the great pools sunken into the floor.

A Centaur gestures. The Guardian rumbles a soft answer, nodding. The Centaur relaxes, then, hesitating only a moment, gives the floor to a Harpy who has flown down from his perch.

Shortly after Sha Kreth's hatching, her mother, Garnet, was killed. It was in the early days of Clan Stonehearth; they had recently settled the rim of the Breach and was attempting to begin construction, which angered a herd of Centaur living nearby. The battles raged for weeks, and Stonehearth was very close to defeat; never a large or powerful Clan to begin with, their numbers were decimated by the Centaurs' ferocious attacks.

In a classic poetic twist, sometime during the battles, Garnet realized that her Charge was a Dunhoof, fighting, obviously, for the other side. It is unknown how long she knew, although it is assumed that it happened fairly early in the struggles, for when the revelation came, it was not a surprise to the Dunhoof in question. Indeed, Garnet had even begun picking up some of the Beastclan language; enough to defend herself and her Charge on the fateful day they chose to reveal themselves.

Garnet had a flair for the dramatic; it was something Animus, her mate, loved about her. She chose a break in the battle to fling herself in front of her Charge, roaring in Common and the little Beastclan she knew about the uselessness of fighting, her hope for peace, and the triumph of her Search being fulfilled. Her Charge reportedly reached up to hold her jaw in her hands, forsaking her bow and arrows.

Unfortunately, the gesture was too dramatic. Seeing a sizeable Guardian flinging herself on one particular fighter, the Centaurs reacted first, and listened later. As the echoes of her proclamation died in the air, so did Garnet and her Charge. Fortunately for all, however, the lust for battle on both sides also died.

For decades, Sha Kreth lived her life in service of her mother's legacy, the hole in her name matching the hole in her life as she strove to become the Clan's Beastclan Mediator. She felt the pull of her Search early, but stubbornly refused it; her work in Stonehearth was too important to abandon. She was happy, she thought; and happier still when Roshon Scarletscale joined the Clan while on his Search. She devoted herself to him, and believed for a while that he must be her Charge, until the day Bastalon collapsed on the rim of the Breach and was brought in to be healed.

She will tell anyone who listens that that day was the greatest and worst of her life. No feeling can be compared to that of finding one's Charge, and finding them bleeding and broken, unprotected. She sat by his side in the salt pools for days, eating only when Roshon brought her food and begged her to. Though she does not regret her decisions in life, Sha Kreth blames herself for not finding Bastalon sooner and sparing him his physical and emotional wounds. He himself is still a little bemused at all these sudden changes in his life.

Sha Kreth's happiness knows no bounds, now. After what she thinks of as a brief spurt of jealousy over Bastalon on Roshon's part, she lives contentedly with both Charge and mate. Her Receiving Room is one of the grandest of all the caverns; tunnels were recently dug to bring in some of the salt and fresh water from the pools, and the soaring ceiling sports perches and more vents than anywhere but the Meeting Cavern. For the Dunhooves are not their only allies, now; through Sha Kreth's tireless efforts and a few serendipitous occurrences, all manner of Beastclan species come to treat with Stonehearth.

Some dragons find it difficult to admit that they do better surrounded by partners than by themselves. Sha Kreth is not one of them. Out of all Stonehearth, it is clear that she needs the community to thrive, although of course Roshon and Bastalon come first. No one in Stonehearth has a bad word to say of her. She is endlessly grateful for the life she lives, and it shows in her interactions with all of the Clan, draconic and non. Her mother would be proud.

She only wishes she could give Roshon children. As one of the last children of Stonehearth before the sudden drop in fertility (and the only one left alive), it was assumed for a long while that she would be able to bear young and help the Clan thrive again. She would love to. She really would. Aside from wanting to be a parent, she feels keenly the need to train others in her craft, so that her efforts will not die with her. But the strange spell of infertility that has fallen over the Clan affects her too, much as she wishes otherwise.
