Biography

Isra, the Beast's Keeper
The Earth engulfed us that night

Isra had been mated to Altan for so long that she could hardly remember a time before him. And though it was strictly forbidden and taboo, she traveled in a clan that consisted of him and several other imperials. They were happy, and produced many beautiful children.

Until the landslide hit their lair.
An entire mountain tumbled down without warning, crushing many of the inhabitants under large and nearly unmovable sharp rocks. Isra had been out gathering at the time, but when she returned there were already large pools of what had to be blood seeping from the rubble. But she dug. She knew that it would be too late to save him, but she couldn't stop. Her fingers became bruised and bloodied as she pulled, screaming to the Gods for a miracle. Tears dripped down onto the remains of her home and finally, after several hours had passed, Irsa rolled away the rock that hid her mates twisted and bruised arm. She recognized it anywhere; Altan never removed their wedding ring and there it was, cracked and shining up at her like some sort of cruel joke. She sobbed, knees buckling as she fell to the ground.

Time passed. She had no idea how long she remained there; several passerbys whispered rumors that the grieving imperial sobbed over her mate for several days, becoming horridly malnourished and dehydrated in the process. No one helped her remove the rubble and she couldn't herself, so she simply clung to the cold hand of her mate.

But then the hand moved, and Isra's heart fluttered in surprise. He was alive? After all of this? Just as the question crossed her mind, a terrible growl echoed out from under the rubble and it began to shift of its own accord. She couldn't move as she stared up at the rearing head of her husband, mangled and bloodied, rising up above the rubble. Then several more appeared, hollow eyed and soulless. An emperor had been born.

Isra did the only thing she could do. As a light dragon, it was coded deeply into her genetics: an emperor must not be allowed to live. She attacked as it was formed, slicing off the mangled limbs as they tried to attack and taking chunks out of the base of each neck. All except Altan. She couldn't bare to hurt him anymore, even though he was a monster.

By the end of it, the emperor fell. Though she tried her best to preserve her mates body, she felt somewhere along the way the Lightweaver himself had possessed her, and even the golden body she loved was destroyed. She began weeping again, but this time she dragged the parts of her clan to a fire she'd created. They couldn't rise up again.

Soon only her an Altan were left. She couldn't do it. She stood by the blazing flames, her lovers body before her, and though she kept raising her hands to push him in she always froze up and cried again. Why did he have to go? And then a sudden idea clicked. She turned towards the flames, closed her eyes, and slowly took a step forward, fully intending on dying off with her lost clan...

"Stop." A deep, calm voice called out. "He can live again." Akaldama smiled that charming smile and Isra stopped crying.

Shortly after that, the necromancer raised her dead mate back from the dead. Though still an emperor, he was much tame than the actual form of the beast, and obeyed only Isra's commands. She was his keeper now, and the source of energy that he drew on to continue 'living'.
