"I've got a gift for you...and though they're not as nice as ones you gave to me, I hope that they will do."

In the dark of the Foxfire Bramble, a young child sat on the filthy streets of a starving town--dreaming for something better.

What he received instead, was an almost guaranteed death sentence.

A fearsome general known as Tzila had arrived, as she often did, for new recruits. Everyone knew what this meant...and so, a difficult decision would have to be made. Reckless and headstrong, Tzila's troops often suffered the brunt of her tactics, bringing a new need for soldiers far too often. He can still remember the sound of her derisive laughter as he stumbled tiredly to her and offered himself up. Within the day, he had been outfitted with cheap armor far too heavy for his tiny frame, and left the only place he'd known.

The learning curve for Tzila's army was simple: live and fight, or perish like a worm crawling about the murk. It was a hard thing for a timid creature like Nemesis (though this was not always his name) to learn, and he still bears the scars of many a 'lesson' from older, more seasoned soldiers. Sometimes, they were gone within days. New faces, just as tired as his. So, so many...and so often, they were gone just like that. And somehow, he remained, a strangely adept tracker that managed to work his way up the ranks to a position far more comfortable than most.

A final lesson remained, however: that nothing was forever. The brash Tzila finally learned this one night, delving head first into a situation that was beyond the means of every single soldier who followed her. Lying in the dirt, life draining away, the terrified Nemesis' fear drew their foe closer...

And then, it offered up a chance. To take power into himself, and live, or fall forever. Watching Tzila's still and rapidly cooling body a way's away, he made his choice. From that day forward, the shy and humble Tundra was no more--becoming a creature without a true name. Becoming Nemesis. The inescapable agent of someone's or something's downfall. To add insult to injury, Tzila was raised as a golem at his beck and call, her memory all but obliterated in the attempt to raise her.

Wandering the world in darkness, Nemesis found many intriguing creatures that were bound for a fate just as terrible as his own. Perhaps, it was a part of the lost creature that wished for retribution to all that turned their back on him...but so far, no one has truly found out.

When the time came to strike, the clan knew of his plot--but to what degree, they hadn't the slightest clue. A twisted creature now far more powerful than Lockwood had ever imagined now lay in wait in the darkness of the clan coated in Shade-tainted vines from his homeland. This was his favorite game, and now everyone would play.

Having given Vasilios calculated doses of his power, the great Guardian's shade broke loose from his grave--joining Nemesis in what would come to be known as the Endless Night. What he hadn't expected, however, was a creature already within the clan to be capable of undoing every last bit of what he'd begun.

Abellio, who he'd written off as a simple dryad, had laid a careful trap to pull the corruption from him. It had hurt...oh, had it hurt. The creature within twisted, and screamed, writhed, and moaned--and finally...

The pain subsided. The small, shy creature inside, somehow, had survived the almost one hundred perfect corruption of his body. He only saw the shadow of the creature that had come to him that fateful night briefly, before his vision clouded into unconsciousness once more. When he finally woke once more, there were faces smiling down at him--ones he'd never expected. Somewhere nearby, Vasilios wailed in frustration. It made his heart hurt terribly, despite the fact it was never him that had made the choice to become close with the equally broken creature. Somehow, he still loved him...but amazingly, his respect for the wishes of his clan mates was far more important.

Tzila, who had been once again fatally wounded, now stared at him with destruction in her eyes. He'd have explaining to do, no doubt...but still, she remained. And he was...happy.

Nemesis has silently agreed that he will not take the name from his 'previous life,' but will instead become the downfall of all those who attempt to harm his home and family. With both his knowledge and that of his previous commander's, his own title finally suits him...even if he's taken far more time upgrading Elethea's pranks as of late.

Finally, this creature seems to have the inner peace he's craved desperately...that he never gave up hope on.
