Serperior
Child of the Forest Guardians
Unforeseen Third Child
I must not be a burden…
Chikorita and Bayleef were supposed to be the chosen ones. A druidic oracle foretold their birth, claiming that two eggs would hatch into near-twins. Those near-twins would go on to be the greatest Forest Guardians of their generation. They would grow into strong and hardened protectors - one would become a deadly warrior and the other would be a powerful mage, and together, they would protect the realm from evil. The prophecy was not entirely correct, though. There were not two eggs, but three The parents were concerned, since they feared it meant that their oracle was mistaken. When the first eggs hatched, they were relieved; there were those near-twin males. They had their prophesied Guardians. The third egg was not neglected, but when it hatched, it was received with considerably less fanfare. There was Serperior, smaller and more delicate than even her weaker brother. While the boys became the parents' pride, Serperior became their favorite. They loved the boys, but they had a crucial duty that they must be given to. Serperior could still be their child. So she was pampered an loved, lavished with all the affection that the parents could not spare the boys. She was gentle and imaginative, fun-loving, and mild-mannered. She was a charming child, and even though her brothers were born with special purpose, she was not forgotten. The parents soon made an unexpected discovery: Serperior was in possession of the same druidic magic that her brothers had. She was not expected to be a Forest Guardian herself, and the prophecy claimed there would only be two. Yet here she was. She lacked the battle prowess and leadership skills of Chikorita and she lacked the education and raw intellect of Bayleef, but her skills were the most inherent and her magic the most naturally potent. Even so, her parents refused to give her formal training as the guardian. They were too fearful to go against the oracle. Instead, they gave her informal training, hoping that one day she could put it to good use. Her abilities blossomed, and she matured into a wise, patient, and graceful magic user. Her parents were very proud, and her raw skill served as a powerful inspiration and motivation for Chikorita. Bayleef, in contrast, had little consideration for her. Serperior doesn't mind, though. She knows her talent, and if her brothers don't accept her? Well, perhaps she was left out of the prophecy for a reason. Maybe she still has a purpose. It's just not the same as her brothers. |
