"Here!" he yells, and tosses it overboard. It lands on the back of the giant sea girlfriend-of-girlfriends, Ocean. She fishes it out of her fur and holds it in her claws.

"Hey, this is so not my job!" she yells back, but it is too late. The snail is her child now. She must raise it.

Your egg hatches into a Crimson Reef Snail! It is quite large, intelligent, and intimidating, and could go far in the world of snail politics if it weren't for the fact that it is so darned grumpy. Its favourite activity is lying facedown on the ship deck and oozing. Ocean empathizes with this snail, and hands it to you with a sincere look in her eye.
