Despite his being a Coatl, Malphas is mainly in charge of lair expansions. He likes blending together tree and soil to make sure the Envoy home blends into the surroundings, though he leaves the actual construction work to the Imperials when they have some spare time on their hands. The glowshrooms that are native to the region belong to his favorite decorating material. He likes the way they reflect the light of the stars on clear nights in the clearing.

Apart from his task as lair designer he also enjoys spending time with familiars. He takes pride in teaching hatchlings how they should bond with familiars and hopes they will always take his lessons to heart.

Malphas and Dove are working together in finding a way out in the clearing when the full moon shines. Sadly the Imperials know what he's up to, or they just want to keep everyone safe, because they never agree on digging out a new entrance to the lair. He started work on it once together with Dove. Lilith had nearly killed him when she found out. Up until this day she hasn't forgiven him.
He just wants to know what causes the singing outside. He wants to know what Abaddon and Kali are up to when they take outsiders to the place upstream. He's been there before but there isn't much to see most of the time. If Ornias hadn't been such a coward perhaps they'd have had more success.

Durga has tried to talk him out of his escapes along with Azazel. Both of them can hear the singing as well, can't they? Why won't they help him then? He likes the lair, he likes the clearing. He just can't stand secrets. Why don't they understand that?

Dove disappeared one day. He doesn't know where she went, and Lilith tells him to mind his own business when he asks. He considered asking Awilix, but the Skydancer observes him too closely these days. There's no trace of Kali left either. Abaddon hasn't commented on her disappearance either, though sometimes the Pearlcatcher will be gazing in the distance, listening. The upstream clearing is more forbidden to him than ever before.
