The young Hikuliak is often considered one of the friendliest dragons in the Realm of the Corvidae, but if you tell him this to his face he will probably blush and deny it, or even run away if he gets too flustered. However, most of the time he'll come back and apologize far more than he should.

A lover of all dragons, Hikuliak has an especial affinity for hatchlings. He is training to become an Eggwatcher, and everyone is certain he'll be in charge of the Nesting Grounds when he's older. The adolescent dragon will spend hours playing with and caring for even just a single hatchling. When a young dragon is being particularly rowdy or disobedient, it's Hikuliak that the Eggwatchers have to call upon in order to calm them. The hatchlings are very fond of him and listen to his every word.

Though many dragons believe he could do great things if he took a place as one of the leaders of the Realm, he and all the others know that this will never happen, for he is a peace-loving dragon that could never raise a claw in war against another, and Naolini is a battlehardened soldier. The Lord of the Realm would never choose him to be a leader, but Hikuliak accepts this and does not worry about it. He does not want to be leader of the Realm.

He's been warned before by Naolini that if he fails to protect any sort of crow due to his pacifism, he will be banished from the Realm of the Corvidae without chance for pardon. Hikuliak accepted this, saying he knows the role of this clan and he will not shirk his duty, but he seeks to assist in the raising of hatchlings to perform their duties.

Even though he works hard and assumes a lot of responsibility, the amiable dragon is still a teen. He won't admit it to anyone if asked, but he has a huge crush on Montague, the handsome seafoam Coatl who joined the clan from the Water Flight. The two are deeply close and make their feelings for each other apparent, and act as if in a relationship, but never formally agreed to be in one.

Surprisingly, the friendly Tundra's closest friend happens to be Monster, the meanest dragon of the clan. However, this may be because the patient and understanding dragon is able to see through to his friend's core, and not just the tough front the Mirror puts up. Occasionally, though, this friendship puts a strain on his relationship with Montague, as the Coatl distrusts the dark-spirited dragon and is jealous of his time with Hikuliak.
