As a dread BloodWorm spiral, Apheleia led a miserable life. Hunting, killing, fleeing from the sun for fear of it damaging her skin, or drying her out.

Using the hides and bones of the her prey, she made a powerful Magic that turned her into a Pearlcatcher. She hoped the breed change would allow her to stay out in the sun, basking in its warmth at last.

But as soon as she left her dark burrow one clear morning, the sun cracked her skin, making seams of vibrant color. It burned into her eyes.

She let out a snarl of rage and pain.

She retreated back into the ground, her new body fitting only awkwardly into the burrows she made as a spiral. She took the skull of a deer, a prized bone in her collection, and made it into her pearl.
It didn't take long for Apheleia to start longing for the sun again. She took a white mantle and covered her sensitive eyes. There she stood in the daylight, shimmering white and iridescent. The longer she stayed out, the worse the pain became.

But the more she went out, the less her body suffered.

This is more than good for Apheleia.

This is disaster for her prey.
