Cadence. It was a name that spoke of music, like his parents' names spoke of music. And Cadence loved music. He could find music in everything that surrounded him. Others didn't notice it, but all the world was constantly creating wonderful music - and he played it, so that others could rejoice in it, too.
Cadence saw the hidden colors in the sounds, that no one else seemed to see. And he painted, he mixed the right colors, in the right patterns, to create something beautiful and as similar to what the world offered him as possible. It wasn't often that he perfectly achieved his aim - an imitation of what he saw, what he heard - but he would always try his hardest, and everyone seemed to appreciate the effort. And on some nights, some particular nights, when the warriors were back after a day of fighting, when the harvesters had worked hard to bring them food, when the stars shone in the sky and the hatchlings played with each other, on some special nights he would create the magic that he always meant to, and people would stop to listen. Some cried. Some laughed. He usually did both, for that magic seeped into his very bones, and he felt it more than anyone else.
