Sort-of-informally adopted by Chrysanthos and Cressida as a child, Carissa is one of the clan's appointed Gatekeepers, watching out for shade encroachment in the clan's territories and sealing off any portals that have been cracked open and which lead to the Shade Realm. As part of her Gatekeeper duties, she is also trained to travel through these gates without being scathed by the shade, and she uses this skill to transport herself to places quickly whenever needed.

Outside of her duties, Carissa is quite close to her adoptive brother Chase, and she can often be found accompanying him and his scouting team on their missions outside of the clan's territory. While she is generally quite amiable towards the rest of the team, there is at times some definite tension between her and Laurent, given the latter's tendency to disregard authority (not to mention his habit of bickering incessantly with Chase).
