Sharktooth'd Talon Captain
The king and his men stole the queen from her bed,
and bound her in her bones...
The seas be ours, and by the powers...
Where we will we'll roam...
A lone egg sat atop a pile of plundered treasure, deep in the cargo holds of a ship. It had been stolen from a lair to the south, a little mercy being shown for the unborn dragon rather than simply smashing it. The same can’t be said for the rest of what would have been the child’s family. Still encased within the egg, the young Guardian began to claw and bite her way out, confused at the world that greeted her as she struggled to be free, the salty air making her cringe. As she attempted to pull the rest of her body free from her prison, the noise from the shifting gold and coins along with her whimpers and cries alerted the dragon working below deck to her presence. Once she was freed from her shell, they promptly took her to the captain of the ship who was surprised to have such an unexpected stowaway aboard his vessel. The discovery had him roaring with laughter as he placed his hat on the young dragon’s head, which was far too big for her, and “She’ll be a fine sailor one day!” was yelled aloud for the whole ship to hear. It may not be the most morally responsible family, but it’s the only one she’s ever known; the Snowsquall Bandits. Her captain, and fatherly figure was an old Ridgeback, strong and not afraid to speak his mind. He and the rest of the crew taught her everything they knew about sailing, from the rigging to navigation. And over the years, she learned to be quite the talented First Mate. Always by her father’s side, the dragoness seemed to mimic quite a lot of the captain’s personality. Loud and proud, a love for the sea and a need to pilfer whatever she could get her claws on. She had a sinister grin, a smile fit for a shark whenever she was in a good mood. Once she was old enough to hold her own in a fight, she went as far as to emblazon the ship’s Jolly Roger across her wing, a threat to be displayed before her foes. She was named Talon, as the only weapon she needed to draw in most fights were her own claws. Traveling the world, many goods were procured, many lairs left in disarray, and quite a few new additions to the crew were made. And though she felt the need to Search, she resented it and willed herself to ignore it, hoping whatever it was would find her instead, or the feeling would disappear entirely. |
She and her crew continue their thievery among clans scattered along the Lowland Scrub within the Shifting Expanse. Without a ship, they were bound to this desert, pillaging and scavenging to make it by. But their reign of terror nearly came to a halt when they happened upon a lair near an oasis along the outskirts of the Carrion Canyon. The leader of the clan, a scarred, imposing looking Skydancer approached them. Unthreatened by the smaller dragon, they drew their weapons and backed him into a corner, prepared to use force to take whatever they wished from this clan. A storm had been brewing overhead and the typically calm Skydancer was thrown into a rage. The lightning crackled and eventually there was a blinding light as there feathered victim lunged forward at the intruders, his body suddenly growing in size and mass before slashing, biting, and tackling the crew to the ground. He had morphed into a Guardian and single-handedly defeated the entire crew (which, considering how small the crew was, wasn't the most amazing feat. But nonetheless...). But...wait, Talon's body also didn't seem right as she moved her forelimbs to help pick herself back up. She suddenly noticed the claws on her thumbs were strangely long and she now had sharp ridges cascading down her spine as she turned her neck to inspect the rest of her body. Had she been struck by that blinding light too? Eventually, she also came to realize the nagging thought in the back of her mind the Search was no longer there, instead replaced with this burning need to "borrow" to which she was much more inclined to pursue; she was free. Talon stared at the Guardian before her with a dumbfounded expression. She was not only impressed that an individual was capable of such strength, but she now felt indebted to him for this new form she was blessed with. Respect was earned, and a sort of truce was made. The crew was allowed to stay as long as they treated this lair and its residents with respect.
In exchange, the engineers from the Howling Tempest found inspiration in the crew’s need for a new vessel, and began construction of what, in their opinion, was far superior to any ship ever created before. It was capable of 3 transportation modes, land, sea, and air, and sported advanced navigational tools, security systems, artillery, and an engine powered and charged by the bolts of pure energy that rained down from the skies above. From there on out, she and her crew were referred to as the Sand Sharks, and the new vessel, now deemed the King Thresher, was used both for the transportation of goods, border patrol, and their typical thieving ways from time to time.
