RUNESTONE
Coli Fighter - Farmer

tumblr_o451mhCHDU1shyk2ho9_1280.png

Eeyore, but like, in dragon form.

He enjoys hanging around - because of how cheerful he is. It's a nice change from his own pessimistic personality.

Runestone is a very simple dragon that prefers his own space. He has a few select close friends that he endures company for, but even then he can't help but be a "glass half empty" kind of guy. He is very skeptical of everything but he's willing to try everything once.

As a hatchling Runestone was captured by dragons from the plague rep. It ended as a misunderstanding, they confused Runestone for a dragon hatchling that had gone missing. It took several days for Runestone to escape the clutches of the clan that was holding him captive. Rune was far from home, and he knew there was no chance that he might stumble upon it so he started walking. After a week passed, Runestone came upon the Ashfall Waste and collapsed. A few days later he awoke inside of a tent. He planned to leave eventually but ended up falling in love with the going ons in the clan he awoke inside of. From there, Runestone built his own home, and though he spends most of his time inside, he can occasionally be found in his iris filled personal garden.

Scimitar was cleaning up the mess of the Magi that they had just slaughtered, and they were both scouring to see if there was anything of use. It was nearly dusk, and they had decided to leave after they found anything of use from the Magi.

In the distance, Runestone heard a emitting sound from across the Coliseum, and it was getting louder with every second that passed. He felt the floor beneath him vibrate with each stomp. With a sudden realisation, he was listening to a monster’s heartbeat. But not any monster’s. A Boar’s.

Apparently, Scimitar spotted it, too. Years of being in the Coliseum does something to you. Runestone sighed, and signaled to Scimitar to be ready.

He hefted the sword that was in his belt. It glinted in dusk, the reddish-orange light from the sun reflecting at it. He shifted from his kneeling position when he was gathering the Magi’s remaining, and stood- ready to face the Boar. With years of training and a ton of experience and expertise in the Arena, He knew that it wouldn’t be hard for him to defeat the Boar - Yet, Runestone knew better than to underestimate his enemy.

The first shot came off with an old-fashioned clang. Runestone raised his sword just in time to block the incoming claw sweeping his way, and suddenly let go of his hold on the claw with his sword and ducked down, leaving the Boar tumbling down from the sudden loss defiance and unevenness, and letting Scimitar take a strike at the Boar. It was an old trick of his, and one that both he and Scimitar liked.

The Undying Featherback was lying helpless on the ground, and was flapping it’s puny wings in desperate hopes to get free. Before Scimitar could land the final hit at the Featherback, though - Runestone felt a sudden pity for the Boar, and he felt a striking empathy for it. Before he knew it, Runestone yelled at Scimitar, making him pause and momentarily loosen the hold he had on the Boar. Given the chance, the Featherback regained some of it’s strength - managing to haul himself up and toppling Scimitar over in the process.

Runestone wanted to slap himself. When did he start caring about his opponent’s wellbeing? He was a goddamn Coliseum Fighter, not a softie. And his Teammate was now hurt because of his stupidness. But still, Runestone couldn’t help but feel a striking remembrance of the Boar, as if he had seen it before.

Scimitar was already fending off blows from the now energy-renewed boar, as it attacked with new vigour and strength. Runestone didn’t know how it found the strength, but it was the least of his worries. He dived back into battle.

‘‘What are you doing?’’ Scimitar yelled at him, but the Featherback’s roar drowned his voice out.

Runestone swiftly danced away from the Featherback’s blows, and dashed under it’s open legs and emerged behind it. The Featherback realised his plot too late, and because of it’s massive size, it struggled to turn. By the time it managed to move around and face him, Runestone had already landed a few blows onto it’s legs. The Undying Featherback howled with pain.. or anger, Runestone couldn’t tell.

But now, the Undying Featherback was now truly lying defenceless, blood splattered and blooming onto the Arena floor from it’s hind legs.

The Undying Featherback whinnied sadly as Runestone put the sword upon it’s hairy, unprotected neck. It was still shining, but now reflecting the moonlight instead.

One quick strike. And it will all be over.

That was what his brain told him to do. He finally took down this beast of a monster, with help from Scimitar. And now was the chance to dispose it - to kill it.

The Undying Featherback looked at him pleadingly.. to end his suffering once and for all. It’s eyes, once green with sickness seemed to turn blue. It gave out an almost, inaudible whimper, but Runestone could hear it.

But.. he couldn’t. And almost suddenly, the pieces clinked in his mind.

Runestone finally realised it. It wasn’t remembrance.. it was resemblance. Perhaps not in looks, but in.. well, past experiences.

It was foolish of him, but he sighed and sheathed the blade.

Scimitar’s face was so priceless that it could’ve been comedic.

Runestone wasn’t in the feeling to share with his Coliseum buddy today. He let out a long sigh. ‘’C’mon. It’s getting late. I’ll bring the Boar back. Let’s go.’’

Thankfully, Scimitar didn’t ask any questions - only giving him an eyebrow raise.

As he and Scimitar trekked away from the Arena, with Runestone dragging the Boar with him, the moonlight shone at them - illuminating their path home, like a blessing.
