FAMILIAR
When the cherry blossoms began to fall, she emerged.

An Imperial hatchling ran to the edge of the forest to retrieve the kite he had soared into a tree. But, the height was too tall for him to reach, since he could not yet fly. So he sat feeling hopeless, watching the other hatchlings fly the kites with overjoyed smiles on their faces. Just as he felt the tears begin to well up in his eyes, a rustle from the treetops caught his attention. A dragon, with beautiful gems across her body and a crown made of sakura petals soared up to the top of the tree. Then, she plucked the kite from the top and slowly flew down towards the hatchling. She handed the kite over, and began to speak. “Hello there, young one.” She said in a melodic and soft voice. “I am Sen, a great warrior from a distant clan. What is your name!” “Well ma’am,” he said, with a slight drawl in his voice. “My name is Avalon, although I never feel like I can be a hero like you just were.” “Why is that?” Sen asked in a puzzled tone. “My parents named me Avalon because they said that I was destined for great things or somethin’ like that.” He said with a sniffle. “But I just can’t seem to find my niche!” He gave a little sob. “Well,” Sen then said, looking at him with a mixture of pity and hope. “Maybe I can help change that.” “But how?” Avalon said, looking at her with big, helpless eyes. “Not too long ago, I was just like you. I didn’t have a special talent all my own. But, my village’s warrior took me in and taught me a thing or two about self defense. Maybe I can do the same for you.” “Really ma’am?” Avalon squealed. He began to jump up and down. “You’d do that for me?” “Yes,” Sen said with a smile. “I would.” “Oh goodie!” Avalon said, “Would I get to learn sword fighting, and talon and fae kwon do?” “Yes yes and no.” Sen said. “I could never get fae kwon do down. But I can try if that’s what you really want to learn.” “I’ve gotta go find Ma an’ Pa an’ tell him the good news!” He skipped off out of the forest clearing, and Sen could see him animatedly talking to another Imperial and a Spiral. The older dragons nodded, and Avalon embraced them. Then, he headed back over towards Sen, skipping all the while. “Pa an’ Ma said yes!” Avalon said, beaming. “Great!” Sen took Avalon’s hand and began to lead him deeper into the forest. “Then let’s begin!” ________________________________________ |
