Biography
Iristriel, The Light in the Darkness
I stand upon the precipice of Change, the wielder of power. I stand here not because I want to, but because no one will, or can. I, alone, am the Watcher.

Matriarch of the Eridanus Conclave
The Stars themselves created the form of this creature, the Universe above breathed life into her and the Fates saw fit to guide her down a path that would test the bonds of her faith. And it was with good reason that the Eridanus Conclave - known back then as Azha, the Cradle of the Stars - would become known for its Guardians' lost charges. It was her first mate, her first Charge, who fell first under the unrelenting force of the Shade. Many others followed him, and in the early days the clan was splintered, fractured and driven to grief by the death of fathers and mothers and children. Unwilling to continue fighting for what seemed to be a lost cause, many of the clan abandoned the remaining warriors, unrelenting in their desire to defend their fragile, fledgling existence. They found their way to safer territory while the remains of the Stars' Cradle were largely crushed. It wasn't until the aftermath that Iristriel chose to unburden herself with the loss of her charge, for an age had come and gone and come again since his death. Moving on with what remained of her clan required her to seek out freedom. So she took to the skies, her broad, muscular body becoming sleeker, leaner, swifter on the wind. And she danced under the stars as reality bent itself around her, allowing her to shape her form with the sheer power of her will. The Cradle of the Stars reborn, reshaped, the Dragons under the care of the Matriarch of what is now the Eridanus Conclave study magic, other realities, and the portals and passages that interconnect them all.
* * *
Iristriel is a peculiar dragon. Over the ages she has amassed a truly incredible amount of power, honing her ancient knowledge into a fine and potent weapon. Her motivations are largely unclear and unknown, even to those closest to her, and she spends quite a bit of her own time secluded in her sanctum. The Sanctum, a wide, circular space, seems to have translucent floors, walls, and ceiling, all of which project a complete map of the cosmos relative to Sornieth. Iristriel studies the stars and their relationships to one another, keeping a close eye on the entity known as the Void that lurks at the far edges of the known universe. She has theorized that the Void and the Shade are one in the same, for over the years of tracking the Void's movements she has seen it snuff out a number of stars. Even those in her own clan have their own rumors about her, though the most interesting and laughable one currently circulating is that Iristriel seeks to become a deity herself. To become a god is the loneliest achievement. |
