Mei comes from a region where the dragons worship the sun and use it as their main source of life and power. Unlike other dragons from other regions, Mei’s people doesn’t have a heart encased in a flame, instead the sun they create for themselves is what they use to warm their blood and regulate their body temperature. Her people spent centuries perfecting their ability to harness the sun’s light to create one for themselves, allowing them to travel farther to colder regions that spend most seasons in darkness.

The orb between her horns is a sun she created, she uses the light from the actual sun to create a smaller one that she uses as a source for her powers/abilities (like shooting lasers/sun beams from it). If the sun dims and eventually dies out, she’ll lose the ability to keep warm and her powers; it’s possible for her to die if she goes too long without her sun.
