Biography
Exalt Guard
Persona Auspice accompanies those who go to serve the Shadowbinder, without judging them for having felt the call or whether they seek her out at the end of their lives or if they have simply found themselves judged too wanting for the clans they come from. She is not often within the lands of her own clan, though she is welcomed warmly when she is in the area. Auspice is noted for her comparative kindness within her own family, though out in the wilds of the forest she is terse and combat-capable when on the move, and at times her duty-before-all attitude marks her as brutish when she argues with more flippant dragons, particularly those that pay no heed to the deities. Her familiar, a bonepriest named Skitter bequeathed from her mother, scurries between her feet and helps her scout out the wandering exalted in the woods. She ties bundles of fur to her armor to mask the clatter of it so she can find and guide her Charges through the Tangled Wood without attracting unwanted attention. When she is within her homeland of the Bleak Strand, she often spends much of her time in the graveyard and in the company of Blight, the undertaker. Background Born in Pneuma's clan, Auspice never felt that she wanted for much. She felt at home and happy to spend time with her cheerful mother, Cabal (knowing nothing of her mother's strange habits) and her wise grandfather, the clan leader Pneuma. When her time of Searching came, she did not wish to leave her home and spent several months meditating with the Darkened Sisters, fasting and praying for insight to her purpose. Under the Sisters' admonishments, she accepted what even her grandfather had not been able to convince her of - that if the Shadowbinder had no purpose for her within her homelands, that she would have to wander elsewhere. However, not long after embracing this she discovered her Charge on the open road. Or rather - what her many charges would be. She would help any any all dragons that sought to aid the Shadowbinder in exaltation and would escort them to the Forum of the Obscured Crescent for their judgement. Since then she has walked, flown, and even swam with devout, feeble, and unwanted on their journeys, guarding them from beastclan attack or - at times - their own doubts. She is the only one of the Sullied Heart Clan that Pneuma allows to interact with so commonly. Though she is young yet, she has never failed in her duty to escort the exalted to the Shadowbinder's home in the heart of the Tangled Wood. Those that lose their ability to even walk, she places on a sledge and drags to Shadowbinder by her strength alone. On a few occasional she has been charged with delivering an unwilling dragon to the Shadowbinder's home. Though she feels qualms about this she does not falter, and has taken some in chains to the threshold. What becomes of them from that point she absolves herself from. Derangement Auspice speaks only in the third person. Whether this is really a derangement as her grandfather says or a habit she picked up from humility is anyone's guess, but no one has heard her refer to herself in first person for years. |
