On a floating island in the Hoverview Vale, a piece of crystalized meteorite landed and wedged into the earth. Three dragons discovered this mana-filled crystal, named it the Spellshard, and were blessed with the seal of the Arcanist. These three seals were all slightly different and bestowed the dragons with different powers--and different sacrifices.

The Guliard dragon bore the Serenity seal and was capable of tapping into the magic of the Spellshard and saw their elemental capabilities expanded. In return, however, they were forbidden from killing another dragon. "Serenity embraces fury."
The Askar dragon held the Sanctity seal and found themself immune to all magic. Even healing, it seemed--except when their life was in danger. Choosing to heal a mortal wound, however, would break the seal. "For the Sanctity of life."
The Nudali dragon wore the Purity seal and found themselves capable of altering their senses, and those of others. Protecting the Purity seal meant they had to avoid Shade influence or producing hatchlings, lest the seal be broken. "Lust only for Purity."

The Spellshard also provided a great deal of magical energy to the island and warned of intrusion of the Shade within it's field. When a seal was broken, this influence lessened until it provided nothing with all three gone.

With the birth of a new generation, though, came another sealbearer to each house, to renew the vow with the Spellshard and make up for the previous generation's shortcomings. And thus, the three families created their new home around the Spellshard, Alzada'al. While it was decided all three families would be capable of holding the newly founded throne if one should fall, only one of them could be deemed the new royal family. After a series of conflicts, games, and plots, eventually, a truce was reached and the Nudalis ruled Alzada'al.
