One day, on an unusually icy night, two dragons faced the struggle of flying against the wind, in the middle of a storm, no less. These dragons, Peony and Corey, had been traveling (well, escaping) for what they thought could be well over a year. The Southern Icefield was not somewhere they could feel welcome, and it never will be again.

They had heard of the land (well, sea) of the Tidelord, of his disappearance and the safety his territory could bring them, if they were able to reach it. They decided to leave after hasty preparations, time was not something they could waste.

And so, they flew, and flew.

They know of their escape, for sure.

They are surely looking for them by now.

They didn’t look back; they couldn’t.

The air they faced was chilly, even as they briefly stopped by the Domain of the Flamecaller. If they stopped for a minute longer than needed, they could catch up. Were they being too paranoid? maybe, maybe not. You never know when you are fighting for your survival.

The Sea of a Thousand Currents welcomed them, a new life awaited after their long journey. A male Guardian dragon gave them an extremely weird-looking pair of eggs not long after their arrival, not even Peony, who was once a renowned scholar, had seen anything like them before.

In a similar fashion, Corey found an injured and unconscious male Imperial dragon near their lair.

With his scarce medical knowledge, Corey managed to nurture him back to health. The Imperial dragon never talked much about his past, but Peony recognized easily how a dragon who’s seen the battlefield before looked. With time, this dragon, who they found later on was named Calix, bonded with them, and even the hatchlings, Aster and Dahlia, the pair of sisters born from the weird-looking eggs, grew attached.

Thus, the Ataraxia Clan was born.

Things were calm in the beginning, new dragons had decided to stay with them, Aster and Dahlia grew, each developing their own very different personalities, one cautious and reserved, the other adventurous and outgoing. Mates were established, and nests were formed.

Peony and Corey had finally found peace.

Until one day, Peony woke up alone, with only a letter for an explanation.
Corey had banished. Never to be seen again.

Nobody really knows the full contents of that letter, Peony was the only one who had read it. The only thing the rest knew was that Corey had decided to serve under the Tidelord, even if his location was unknown.
They heard Peony once mention that he didn’t feel like they were completely safe, that he felt that he needed to do something else for them.

Peony wasn’t the same after the incident. She never really smiled much since then.

They missed her laugh. Aster and Dahlia, who had grown to see her as a mother figure, missed her warm embrace. Calix, who had trained alongside both of them as the only adults in the Clan for some time, missed her ferocity in battle and sassiness in training. The rest of them, who hadn’t known her for as long as the rest, missed their strong, protective and confident leader.

Peony was just a husk of what she had once been, and eventually, she decided to leave her position, at least for some time, to go into hibernation.

Aster and Calix were now tasked to lead the Ataraxia Clan. They were now the new Matriarch and Patriarch.

But, against common practice, they were not mates. Both Aster and Calix had their eyes on other dragons. They were certainly not going to change that in order to adapt to their new roles and old traditions.

Their Clan was not what a traditional one would look like anyway, right? Why would they follow tradition in this case?
